    AVC query

Thanks bstop, another terrific point to note! I’ve paid Class D contributions for 36 years but had some Class A payments before that, but probably only 50 weeks in total.

Taking over a Sole Trader's Business with employees

Thanks, I saw that, and their weekly wage would be less than €600, but the we can figure out the exact figure involved. The redundancy liability carrying forward was the real unknown and really the main concern. I think it’s probably a non-runner with this to consider.

Taking over a Sole Trader's Business with employees

Thank you very much Brendan, I’ll pass on your advice. It Is indeed a bit tough on the existing owner and I’m sure most in a similar situation don’t even realise this consequence of taking on employees who then stay with them for many years.

Taking over a Sole Trader's Business with employees

A friend has been offered the opportunity to buy a sole trader's business as they wish to retire. It's a small service business with 2 employees. There is a nominal amount being discussed for "buying" the business along with a separate small amount for existing equipment used in the course of...

    The colour scheme

I have to say that the current lilac colour scheme is not the best (I'm being nice here, its terrible really). The old pale blue one worked very well, please bring it back :-(

I've looked through the HIA website and I'm struggling to determine if any other plan is a better option for me. Anyone have any advice?

How much monthly income do I need if I retire now?

Thanks for all the replies, I'll add a little more info to clarify: I'm actually looking 6 years into the future here and considering early "retirement", which in reality means leaving my current job and doing something different. Hopefully this will bring in some income but I've no idea how...

How much monthly income do I need if I retire now?

PRSI rates on Public Sector pensions

Their HR dept can indeed provide some info, but I’m told they are very slowly respond. And like your own experience they seem to operate multiple pension schemes depending on the date you started your employment. Thanks again, very useful information indeed. I agree the pension scheme in...

PRSI rates on Public Sector pensions

Thanks for clarifying the PRSI situation. They are 100% certain that the divisor is 60, so after 40 years service, their pension is 40/60 of their salary, assuming normal retirement age. Their normal retirement age is 65, with an actuarial reduction of 6% per for each year they retire early...

PRSI rates on Public Sector pensions

A colleague is considering early retirement at 58, normal retirement age 65. At 58 they will have 40 years service and be entitled to 40/60ths at normal retirement age but a reduced amount if they opt to have it paid at 58. However, there are 2 salary scales in operation, Schedule A for those...

TV coverage of Hockey team homecoming

The OP's query was about the Irish Women's Hockey team, not sport in general, or the monkeys in the zoo, or anything else you "could" have been referring to. You answered the OP's post with inaccurate information, I tried to clarify this, which it appears you didn't like. No need to be unpleasant.

TV coverage of Hockey team homecoming

Agreed, but the fact remains that your original statement is wrong, €1.5m is not being given to any hockey team. Whatever "extra" amount is allocated to hockey is being given to Hockey Ireland. However, your claim that its just more populism from Ross is 100% accurate.

TV coverage of Hockey team homecoming

Not quite true, an additional €1.5million is being allocated to high-performance teams, it's being spread around, not just women's hockey. It seems there isn't a breakdown available as to who is getting what. Oh, and they have been asking for it for many years, just never got it.

    Canada Life Concordia Investment Policy

Thanks Brendan, sorry, the €7 might actually be the Government stamp duty on contributions, I don't have the documentation in front of me at the moment. I'll follow up later with a more accurate answer! Thanks LDFerguson, thats very helpful, not sure what some of it means but I shall ask as...

    Canada Life Concordia Investment Policy

Cheers Brendan, forgot about the life cover but its only about €15k at the moment, but cover of €400k through employer. Mortgage is a tracker on ECB +0.6% so very little point in paying extra into that, pension is maxed out already (defined benefit) - this policy is an extra to that as I hope to...
