    How to find a Solicitor?

We are both first time buyers, got the mortgage etc. sorted and a bid accepted but now we have no solicitor. Most of my friends bought years ago so I’m finding it hard to get a recent recommendation for a solicitor. I have heard that the cheapest option is not necessarily the best but where...

Great article by Karl Deeter on housing bubbles, shortages etc

Sums up the Irish market for me. A near pathological fear of repossessions even for people who obviously can't afford the repayments. There's your problem right there. Solution: repossessions, but that's not happening, although I believe the Troika are trying to fix the block.

Couple -one borrower, one cash buyer - both on Mortgage?

Thanks for the replies, which make sense. No the bank did not explain this and when questioned was unable to explain and had to go check with their manager etc. and still hasn't provided a clear explanation, hence my question. Thanks for clearing that up.

Couple -one borrower, one cash buyer - both on Mortgage?

Hi, We are both first time buyers but my partner is a cash-buyer, I need a mortgage so I was just going to get a mortgage for about half the asking price (€510k) so say €250k mortgage up to maybe €275k (I was previously approved for €360k as a single applicant a couple of years ago but...

    Moving to Loughlinstown

I would also like recent information on the area. Also, what is Ballybrack like these days? I was born there and it was pretty dodgy back then but what is it like nowadays? Also, what is the best way to determine what area a house is really in? I ask because the area I was born in in...

    Planning Laws

Good article in today's FT on planning laws, mainly from a UK and US perspective. Any ideas on the Irish situation? I fear it may be as bad, if not worse here. http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/8d5c6ed8-0c0a-11e4-a096-00144feabdc0.html

    Honeypark, Dun Laoghaire

Went to see the showhouses yesterday, they do look very nice. Do you reckon they are still over priced? They seem to be selling pretty quick. The green are in the middle with the lake etc. is lovely.

How Could One Invest in Iraq/Iran?

I have heard that it is possible to legally invest in Iran although for that fund the minimum investment was $2m, which is way out of my range. Clearly it’s high risk, you have to be able to stand huge drawdowns (that fund fell 30% recently) but if Iran gets a proper government and if Iraq...

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

Yes I rang them and they told me there was no need to fill out the Form 12, just write to my local office and pay the DIRT, makes far more sense than wasting my own and the Revenue's time with all those forms, fair play to the Revenue, just hope it works now.

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

Is this true? Has anyone done it? I also have one foreign account earning well less than €2000 and I’m trying to complete the Form 12. Firstly, there is no option for foreign deposit interest on the Form 12 (there’s one on Form 11 but where do you enter it on Form 12?). Also it seems like...

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

I emailed Revenue about this a few weeks back and they only just replied to me now. They advised that if I did not receive any foreign deposit interest in 2010 that I do not need to make a tax return for 2010. Is there a separate notification requirement? I can't see anything on the Revenue...

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

I’m looking at the Form 12 again and it refers to “interest received” as opposed to interest earned. My only foreign account, while opened in November 2010, didn’t actually pay me any interest until February 2011 so does that mean that I don’t need to complete Form 12 by October 2011 and in...

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

How do you actually pax the tax on foreign deposit interest? Form 12 just details your income, do you have to submit it well before 31 October so that they tell you how much to pay by then?

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: The taxation of foreign deposit income

Just looking at Form 12, can you just complete the part that relates to the foreign deposit income? Or do you have to complete all of the information on your PAYE, salary, pension etc., even though you have already been taxed on that as normal?

AIB Regular Saver Account Rate Drop

So to get the decent interest rate again, do you literally have to just close the account and then open the same account up again straight away?

Indo: David McWilliams: Irish Deposits could be hit Argentinan Style

I moved most from Irish banks to NUK/Rabo as I assumed foreign banks were safer than Irish banks but how safe are their deposits that are located here? I have a Keytrade account as well but the rate is poor and Belgium doesn't look too safe either.

Hold or cash in savings bond with An Post?

The email was probably received by a low level civil servant who may reply or not reply with no accountability either way so why would they bother? In fact, now that I think about it, they'd think they'd be safer not saying anything (that could later be held against them) at all.

Key Post Opening an account with KeyTrade Belgium

I had similar problems but the problem seems to be in Ireland, not Keytrade. Delays with the first letters (never arrived), keytrade sent them again. When they finally arrived (in a different order to what they were sent in) the letter with my Digipass or whatever it’s called was open! It...
