Sums up the Irish market for me. A near pathological fear of repossessions even for people who obviously can't afford the repayments. There's your problem right there. Solution: repossessions, but that's not happening, although I believe the Troika are trying to fix the block.

Yes I rang them and they told me there was no need to fill out the Form 12, just write to my local office and pay the DIRT, makes far more sense than wasting my own and the Revenue's time with all those forms, fair play to the Revenue, just hope it works now.

How do you actually pax the tax on foreign deposit interest? Form 12 just details your income, do you have to submit it well before 31 October so that they tell you how much to pay by then?

Just looking at Form 12, can you just complete the part that relates to the foreign deposit income? Or do you have to complete all of the information on your PAYE, salary, pension etc., even though you have already been taxed on that as normal?

So to get the decent interest rate again, do you literally have to just close the account and then open the same account up again straight away?

I moved most from Irish banks to NUK/Rabo as I assumed foreign banks were safer than Irish banks but how safe are their deposits that are located here? :confused: I have a Keytrade account as well but the rate is poor and Belgium doesn't look too safe either.

The email was probably received by a low level civil servant who may reply or not reply with no accountability either way so why would they bother? In fact, now that I think about it, they'd think they'd be safer not saying anything (that could later be held against them) at all.
