    Contributory State Pension

It is my understanding that public servants hired post 1996 get a coordinated pension on retirement. It is made up of the contributory pension + public service pension. So the answer is, if you take the job in the public sector you will continue to accumulate stamps and will receive the...

Looking to purchase a printer for home use.

If you're only printing occasionally I would use surfbox at my local library, you email your print jobs to the the terminal, it emails back a release code so only you have access to the job. Costs 20c for b/w & 60c for colour. You have 3 days to pick up before the print is deleted. They also...

Difficulty registering for upgraded computershare investor centre

Hi all, Computershare have upgraded the investor centre and I'm having difficulty registering. Is anyone else having this problem? I can fill in the registration form up to the point where you must select the company(vodafone) from a dropdown menu but vodafone isn't one of the companies...

Anyone risking booking a foreign holiday

If going to Japan I would definitely recommend a personal tour guide. We had one in Tokyo & Kyoto, takes all the hassle out of trying to navigate the cities transport and tourist sites. We had them each for a full day tour, got to see loads. Also a big thing in Japan is forwarding your luggage...

    Auto switch energy utilitiy bills

Thanks Sue Ellen, You're right, re reading their blurb- "The concept here is that your gas and electricity switches to a new supplier when a better deal pops up - without you doing anything." They refer to "a better deal" rather than the best deal, which would give them wiggle room to move you...

    Auto switch energy utilitiy bills

Hi all, I was just reading an article on the bbc website about how to keep on top of the extra costs associated with working from home https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-54538949 They make reference to an auto switching service in the UK "The concept here is that your gas and electricity...

    Irish Independent website

That's a fair point. But it's opinion and analysis I pay for, we need to support investigative journalism also. RTEs site is fairly sparse sometimes but I recently found Fergal Bowers to be excellent along with Tommie Gorman(as mentioned above)

    Irish Independent website

I never use the independent, i find it unbearable. I pay for Irish Times & Guardian. However I do use my library card to access pressreader(Washington Post, LA Times, Telegraph etc. are all available). Also gives acces to rbdigital which has magazines including Economist, Newsweek, Time and many...

    The Coronavirus

Who is they? It just turned me off to see him present as Dr John Campell while offering analysis on a medical topic, I assumed he was a doctor. His phd is in education(context is important in a serious situation such as the coronavirus). I'll have another look based on your recommendation. I...

    The Coronavirus

Just to clarify the Dr John Campell mentioned above states on his youtube channel that he's an A&E nurse(he has a phd in nurse education areas), so not a medical doctor. That's not to say any advice he gives is bogus, nurses are medical professionals also.

Health Insurance Irish life 4D Health 2

Thanks for that Irishstig. I won't be needing orthopaedic unless something catastrophic happens thankfully, i actually haven't had to claim much at all(just 1 gp visit in previous 12 months), but still would not be without cover.

Health Insurance Irish life 4D Health 2

That's interesting to hear. It's actually about €100 more expensive than last year and a lot of advice is to shop around or risk paying too much unnecessarily. I don't mind renewing it if it's still considered a good plan. Thanks for the reply.

Health Insurance Irish life 4D Health 2

Hello, I'm currently on Irish life 4D Health 2 @€1,315.40 renewal date for 1st April. Is there a similar plan that's better value? I'm based close to Galway so access to Galway clinic & Bons Secours would be important. I've stayed with Irish life for a few years now, just changing plan with...

    Supplementary Pension question please....

Appologies for hijacking this thread. I have a question that sort of involves the supplementary pension and AVC's. In another thread I mentioned that when I was sold avc's nobody explained that I would be entitled to a supplementary pension if I was to retire at 60( I'm post 95, pre 2004)...

Buying some yen for travelling to Japan

We were in Japan last year. When I went to collect Yen that I had ordered from a local bank they wouldn't give it to me as I wasn't a customer(a condition that they failed to tell me). Had to travel the following day without cash. On arrival we had no problem getting cash from the ATMs at the...

Hi Watcher, Did you get this resolved? I noticed today that my visa debit card has reversed the refund I received. I called support and they said there's a letter in the post explaining what I do next.

    Thomas Cook booking

Hi Watcher, This also happened to me(trip to Man Utd v Liverpool). I used 2 separate cards during the booking process, I've already received a refund from mastercard, expecting the money from visa debit either today or Monday. It falls under a chargeback for goods and services not received. I...
