Hi - anyone have a simple income tax spreadsheet template? I know there are some online, but would prefer to do it all in a spreadsheet myself.
Thanks!
Justin
So just to summarize - there is no way to diversify a portfolio with any kind of fund in Ireland, without being hit by the 41% tax? so we basically have to stock-pick many individual stocks to get diversification?
I just got stung at 41% tax on gains on a few ETFs I bought a while back. First I'd ever heard of this tax so came as a surprise, especially as I thought i was OK with capital losses from previous years...
Would love to get some thoughts from people on this form for what are the alternatives to...
Just before I get spammed by people saying I am evil even considering this - my current situation is:
- I am loosing very significant money on the property. 2k over 2014
- Tenants have been in the property for 5 years & have only had 1 rental decrease in that time. 4 years ago
- Rental is a good...

Hi - for everyone hit by the NPPR extortion, a group of us have put together a website to collect stories, and share any successful outcomes - potentially leading to an eventual appeal. The website is at [broken link removed], there are links to Facebook & twitter feeds there as well.
I'm Interested Mat - I'm the OP on a previous post below, got stung for 2+k while living overseas. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to round up a few more to add to your case. Personally I'm aware of one other couple in the same boat - a bit of googling will uncover hundreds...
Should the renter pay? A sample lease (from topfloor.ie) gives that they should pay for both.

When water charges are metered, of course it makes sense for the renter to pay, but for the property charges?
Hi,
I'm based in Dublin - had a very bad experience with my previous tax accountant and looking for a new one. Any recommendations? I guess no issues going outside Dublin if they can do everything online?
thanks and regards,
Justin
Hi,
I've just moved back to Ireland at the start of November 2013 after working abroad for 3.5 years. Wondering what are the tax implications?
Do I get a full tax credits for 2013? So tax liable for Nov/Dec will basically be very low or not apply?
Note - I had my house rented for the...
Hi Dermot - I would very much like to hear more about that if you could find any further information on that case. Thank you for bringing it up.
Hi Luthernau - I have brought up the issue with the agent - expressed my concerns on her lack of good service and mentioned she should think about...
Following up on this - further research suggests that the management agent may indeed be liable for this charge:

Anyone with any opinions on this?
There has been legal challenges - a Mr Finbarr Whelan challenged Dublin City Council on the late fees in December 2012 and lost. I was forwarded on a report on the case by my good friend in the local council office as a kind of a "you don't stand a chance - give up now". See attached
However...
Exactly - I should have been contacted by one of three different agents, the council, my estate agent and my tax agent. While I do read the newspapers online fairly regularly - the NPPR just did not stand out to me & the first time I'd even heard of that phrase was a few weeks ago.
Secondly -...
I've just checked up the legislation again on this - in the 2011 amendment, it seems to re-define the person liable to pay the NPPR as being the person who the rent is paid to, which would seem to be the agent?
Any thoughts/advice?
Its section 18 - at the 2011 legislation - google "local...
Thanks Brendan - thats an interesting read.
What flabbergasts me the more I look into it is the lengths they have to go to to get around the original extortionate late payment penalty. The big long web page they had to put together for this, all the 'apparent' ads they put in the media for...
I had a tax advisor - doing my taxes for the year. She said as it was council tax it was not her department, so she neglected to tell me about it.
I had an estate agent looking after my house - she 'thought' I knew about it already.
I had the county council looking for the money. They said...
So it turns out the government decided an uncapped 120% interest rate on the NPPR charge was suitable - compared to say a capped at 130 euro fee on the household charges - either cause they thought they could get away with it or cause of just general incompetence (“never attribute to malice that...
