    Funding an extension

Try your existing lender in case there is a top up option on your mortgage, will depend on loan to value etc. If not I would be looking at credit union.

    Dad 75 worried

TV3 news bulletins are still referring to it as a second home tax, no wonder people are confused.

Family member after losing pension - please help

Have you tried a Citizens Information office for some help with this? Some of them have excellent staff who can help you put together an appeal or even work through the case so far and help explain exactly what has gone wrong.

Credit Union Restructuring Board CEO Resigns

Mergers solve some problems, most smaller credit unions will not have sufficient staff or resources to implement all the new controls that Central Bank has put in place. Merging with bigger CU's will enable this to be achieved so even a profitable small CU has not a hope of continuing on in the...

    Dad 75 worried

A few paid staff in the offices but the bulk of them are voluntary, I used to do it myself for a while until I got sick of working for nothing :)

    Removing 3rd person from Mortgage?

Cancel the policy, I presume you are not dependant on your father's income in the unfortunate event of his death, just cancel it. It may be assigned to Start but there are still ways to cancel it, stop paying it and it will be cancelled very fast. Start might write a letter or two but...

    Self build advice needed

In years of dealing with people who built their own houses either by contractor or direct labour invariably it goes over budget with the worst overspend being with the direct labour versions. I would imagine it would easily cost 250k for that size house especially if you are talking about any...

Breakdown Assist invalid if NCT out of date

I have breakdown cover through AXA with car insurance, have used it several times and find them great, never asked about NCT and would tow to either nearest garage, own garage or to your home. Never had to use these options as they restarted it each time thankfully.

NPPR disproportionate interest - paying principal only for now and taking a case?

Let the Joe Duffy public know you are planning an appeal, lots of people on there all week who would be interested I imagine. Some very unusual stories like the woman who swapped house with her parents as father was ill and couldn't manage stairs and she had a ground floor bedroom/bathroom...

    Motor First time car insurance?

You will have to check with the company but I would be practically 100% sure the answer will be no, usually to have extra benefits like that at least a full licence and over 25 is a requirement.

    State pension entitlement

But she better say she is looking for work as to sign for credits you are 'meant' to be actively seeking work. She would want to check with Citizens Info as she will only be able to get credits at the same stamp as such that she last paid so if her last ones were limited and no good for pension...

Flogas -v- Calor Gas, any opinions on switching?

Looked into the idea of buying my own tank as suggested, couple of grand for the tank and cert needed every year for gas companies at a cost of €100. Cheaper to rent it methinks!

    Mortgage statement

Personally I think credits like this should be left sitting there on the account, provided the bank is dealing with them in the way I explained, the only reason for getting them officially put against the balance would be if you want to reduce your monthly repayments to reflect the new lower...

    Mortgage statement

Usually when lenders talk of it building up as a credit on the account and not put against the capital and recalculated what it means is that the original amount/term/repayments have not been changed to reflect the additional payments. This does not necessarily mean that you are not saving...

    Mortgage statement

Well from my reading of that you owe 250k, the Arrears/Credit Balance column is just an internal accounting thing really and just shows how far ahead or behind you are on the scheduled payments. The current loan balance is the balance outstanding. There are repayment calculators online that...

    Mortgage statement

I have never heard of them in a separate account, they are usually just shown in a different column if you were looking at the banks computer screen.

    Mortgage statement

Bank statements differ, based on my own experience with one the balance outstanding is the actual balance, the credit relates to how much you are ahead as such against the scheduled repayments, I presume you have been overpaying or paid a lump sum? Best to ask the bank but I would imagine you...

    Going to Jobseekers Allowance

Yes declare the savings, they won't affect it. Not sure how your wife's salary will affect it, depends on her income. Local CItizens Info office would work it out for you.

Flogas -v- Calor Gas, any opinions on switching?

Never heard of buying your own tank, never even knew it was possible. Won't be converting the car, not enough room in the boot for the tank. My mother had all her cars converted to gas over 30 yrs ago, they were fine big Ford Granadas though with plenty of room. Everyone used to tell her it...

Flogas -v- Calor Gas, any opinions on switching?

I am presently with Calor but am getting a real hard sell from Flogas rep, on the surface the deal seems much better and I was not best pleased with Calor's hike in their tank rental charge so don't feel any great loyalty to them. Is there anything I should know? something I am missing re the...
