Why not Prize Bonds? Expected 3% tax-free

First progress report; Won €75 in last Friday's draw. I bought these in mid June so it took 8 weeks to win a prize. Doesn't bode well for achieving my interest of €600 over the six months I intend to stay invested in them (the amount of interest I have forgone by investing in Prize Bonds as...

Why not Prize Bonds? Expected 3% tax-free

I was thinking about this recently. I've studied probability but I really couldn't be bothered doing the math. What I have done though is I've bought 6,400 prize bonds (total spend €40,000). They way I see it I am forgoing around €600 in interest but if I only win a few €75 prizes it will reduce...

Personal loan €15k, serious illness, bank threatening commital order

My sister took out a personal loan a few years ago for around €15k. She was subsequently diagnosed with MS and is out of work. The Bank (one of the main Banks but not BOI or AIB) have got a judgment on her. She wrote to the Bank and explained her situation but they handed it over to...

    Laragan customers lose their deposits

Sorry its work related so can't reference it on the web. You'll note that the solicitor who posted didn't disagree with me though, she just said that "it was absolutely bog standard for deposits to be released to builders on foot of having a homebond guarantee". It was also bog standard for...

    Laragan customers lose their deposits

I am well aware that everybody did it, that doesn't mean it was correct. I am dealing with this everyday and I have recently dealt with a development which has gone bust where the solr held the deposits and one which went bust where the solr lodged the deposits to the developers loan and guess...

    Laragan customers lose their deposits

Foxylady If the contract was bog standard that means that it was governed by the Law Societies standard terms and conditions of sale. Under these terms and conditions the solr is supposed to retain the deposit as it is refundable in the event that the builder doesn't complete. Obviously if it...

    Buying A Site

If you are purchasing a field of say 10 acres at agricultural prices (with regard to location) say 10 - 14k per acre, then you would not be taking much of a risk buy completing the deal prior to applying for planning as if it was refused you would still have a field which would be worth as much...

Purchasing a site - interest rates

They will more than likely offer you a Cost of Funds based rate (or a Prime rate). Current 3 month (practically variable) COF is about 2.3% and the bank will put a margin of somewhere between 1.5% and 2.5% (in most cases) onto that. That would give you a rate of roughly 4.75%. She might be...

Fix your mortgage rate now or miss big savings?

True. My point is that I consider a tracker even better than a variable because it takes away the power of the Bank to manipulate the margin.

    Bank Loan refusal. Please Help

And that is exactly why Branch Managers can no longer approve personal loans - it has all been centralised because they were relying on the Bankers nose method which doesn't work anymore - it did in the old days.

Fix your mortgage rate now or miss big savings?

Historically people who stick with variables (or better still trackers) have came off the best. I reckon the only time you should fix is if there is an expectation of a major hike or when you are young and a 1 or 2% hike would put you under serious pressure.
