Holiday home Spain or Portugal ?

I've set up a consultation with a Spanish solicitor to go over a few things. One thing that is relevant is that Catalunya passed a decree in Dec 2023 that limits the number of rental tourist licenses to a fixed number per inhabitants in a given town. This will reduce the amount of rental...

Holiday home Spain or Portugal ?

I get the need to do due diligence when it comes to buying property, but I don't subscribe to the view that you should agonise over a decision over a period of years either. Timing is always a factor. Markets change for better and for worse. You will always hear about bad experiences, never good...

Holiday home Spain or Portugal ?

So I visited last week over a 72 hour period and saw 7 properties. I'm targeting near bottom end of the market (< €200k) as I don't want to over commit, and I did see something I liked (note prices in Costa Brava are a bit higher in general than Costa Blanca, Dorada or Almeria) I made an offer...

Holiday home Spain or Portugal ?

I bought a holiday apartment in the Costa Blanca back in 1998. I was 27 years old at the time! Myself and GF at the time went on one of those agency funded visits and I ended up buying a half-finished place for €65k. We broke up soon after, but I kept it for 4 years. Didn't use it much, but my...

LG Dual Inverter Air-to-Air heat pump issues

They cost €2,000 - €2,500 installed, depending on the distance between the outdoor and indoor unit. Update on mine: Got another lad to look at it. It said pressure switch was gone, and it would be €600 to replace it. After he left, I ran the unit on dehumidifier mode for a few hours, as we...

LG Dual Inverter Air-to-Air heat pump issues

Only for parts. They won't replace the unit. Lad who installed it doesn't know what's wrong with it, so doesn't know what to replace. Purely decorative at this stage.

LG Dual Inverter Air-to-Air heat pump issues

I got an LG Dual Inverter air-to-air heat pump installed in 2018. It worked well for 5 years without any issue, but this year, it packed in with a "CH 24" error, which is fairly non-descript. A company came out an replaced a PCB. It worked again for about 10m, and then packed in with a "CH 41"...

    Twitter Defamation

That certainly appears to be the case. I had hoped that perhaps some solicitors frequent the "askaboutlaw" topic, in the way trades people frequent DIY topics. Perhaps not.

I asked for advice about contacting solicitors.

    Twitter Defamation

Twitter is not exempt from defamation law.

    Twitter Defamation

Yes, and the thousands of other people who saw the tweet. It is possible for someone to have a poor view of you without being able to discipline you.

    Twitter Defamation

I'm not asking for an opinion on my case (not that this is stopping anyone from offering it). Why anyone would think I would be looking for complex legal advice on AAM is beyond me. I have been told by various solicitors that I have a case. My difficulty arises from not being able to engage...

    Twitter Defamation

I just want someone to write a letter for me to the other party, asking them to substantiate their claim or otherwise retract it publicly. If they refuse, I would probably leave it at that.
  14. G

    Twitter Defamation

I can't, as that would expose the parties involved, and until such time as I secure legal advise, or decide to leave it, I am afraid this might undermine things. One of the solicitors advised me to keep the matter to myself.

    Twitter Defamation

You haven't read the thread. They were knocking on my door, and then once the lock down started, they stopped. I didn't abuse anyone.

    Twitter Defamation

This is the legal definition of defamation.

    Twitter Defamation

I did not behave inappropriately. There is no disciplinary/contractual issue here with my employer. My employer has acknowledged they should not have reacted.

    Twitter Defamation

How is that a better outcome for me? The tweet has been seen by potentially tens of thousands of people. It is normal practice that if something inaccurate/defamatory is published, a correct and apology is published later.

    Twitter Defamation

I have already reviewed that site. My claim meets all those criteria. However, that site is obsolete. It contains no contact details. I believe they wanted the tweet to remain in situ so that it could be reviewed by the barrister in its original context, rather than as a screen grab.

    Twitter Defamation

So you're telling me that the fact they got back to me indicates I don't have a case, while other posters are telling me that the fact they didn't get back to me indicates I don't have a case?
