How can I get lettuce to last longer in the fridge

Why not buy Romain lettuce. Stays fresh and crispy for long after others.

Who would you like to see as the next president??

Mary Davis for me. Have met her on a few occasions and she's very solid. Plenty of European experience, a good brain and would be an excellent President. C'mon Mary, fling your pashmina in the ring.

    Damp attic since insulation

We did our attic last year. The rafters were 4" deep and the guy put in 4" thick rockwool. Then a film of polythene all over before fixing plasterboard. Will the rockwool get damp from interstitial condensation? We have two velux windows and a gable window.

    Butterflies on Butterfly Tree

Yes I did Molly and I thought it would never grow back to it's height, but it took off like a rocket. Since then have been reading up on it. Next year I hope to grow some plant or tree that attracts birds.

    Butterflies on Butterfly Tree

Unfortunately I've only seen four butterflies at one go on my tree this year. I guess the cold winter did for them. Likewise very few wasps and honeybees. The flowers have now largely disappeared but I'm seeing a few new ones sprouting. This time last year the tree was just a mass of lilac. Have...

Kevin Myres on working class mindsets.

Yes, I'd go with that. And the fear that daughter will become emotionally embroiled with some untermensch either here or on holliers.

Michael o Leary and global warming

Read some time ago about the cyclical nature of droughts in Africa over a thousand year period. Didn't know Ryanair had CFC emitting cargo camels down there then. Scientific data to prove this as well as folklore. Would any of the sacred gentlemen of science care to explain this phenomena? With...

Anna Nolan's moral high ground (Evening Hearld 9-9-10)

As far as I know, Mr Myers has not started begetting yet. Perhaps he has a view that could be termed 'blinkered'. ;)

    Lateral thinking on licensing laws...

Once there is no extortion it should be ok. Or how about putting a container in the corner, saying a few words (like Bertie) and then turning a blind eye as people toss € notes into it. Better € as the $ and £ leave a more noticeable trail.

Bertie: It Was all Lehman's Fault

Possibly the same percentage that say Haughey/Ahearn were great men. I've heard it down the country where parish pump politics are more prevalent.

How on earth do you know? What is "NORMAL"?

    Vincent Browne selling his house

Vincent has also lost other peoples' money. Any of his schemes would not be for widows and orphans unless they had shares in a Beta-blocker Co.

Debt Collection Agencies and enforcement rights

If they are using intimidatory tactics they are breaking the law. Make a complaint to the Gardai. Get the complaint documented and sent a photocopy to their nest.;)

What surname to give first child?

I'm sure that she has given you her reason for wanting this. Just as she gave you her reason for not wanting to take on your name after marriage. The fact that if this is so important to her she should have told it to you when ye both discussed starting a family. This would normally be when you...

    Doctors Differ

Good post ONQ. Am in daily contact workwise with IMC. The haughtiness of some of their bigwigs is astounding. Egos, petty squabbling, sense of entitlements are all pervasive. Some great people too but there is a lot of dead wood in there.

    Mick Lally R.I.P.

I read somewhere that it was Emphysema. The elasticity of the lungs is diminished and the exchange of gases is badly affected. It also stated that this type of disease is on the increase while heart disease is falling.

Elderly people parking in parent & Child Spaces

A good lawyer could argue that the old woman was a mother and her husband had entered second childhood. Thereby qualifying for these much coveted spots.

UPC Phone & Broadband TV with Sky

Have just gone with one of UPC's packages. Before just NTL and Eircom. This new deal gives us 15 megs, a few extra stations, the football one - to keep himself quiet and big savings on calls. Possibly saving about €25 - €30 per month. About €300 per annum. YEAH.

Lame attempt to fluff us up for an atm withdrawal tax

Most places take debit/credit cards these days. So as time goes on ATMs will be surplus to requirements. Who wants to carry a purse of notes/heavy coins about.
