Problem with drylining - advice required

The metal plugs do create a cold bridge, however they are recommended over the plastic plugs as in the case of a fire the plastic ones can melt, increasing the risk of the slabs falling off the wall. During the really cold weather you could clearly see the shape of the plugs showing through on...

    architect in cork

I used Waterman Consulting Engineers for our selfbuild. Highly recommend. John O'Connor was the actual engineer we were dealing with, but we also dealt with a few others in there on little things and they were all very good.

    Which Multi fuel stove?

We have just installed a Cove 2 this week. Its great. We have ours mounted on a store stand and think it looks very well. The single air control works really, really well, allowing you to control the rate of burn with ease. My parents put in a Nestor Martin about 5 years ago. Its a very...

Price of coal: €6.50 for a 12.5kg bag of coal in Woodies today. Anything better?

That's very expensive! At that price it is costing €520 a tonne. Our local farm co op is selling Grade A Polish coal for €350 a tonne, (delivered) at the moment. (it comes in 40kg bags) When we were buying coal by the bag last year (in Cork City) it was around €20 for a 40kg bag.

tiling problem - grout and tiles cracking!

Is your house a new build? Your problem sounds like the house is settling. We have recently tiled a new build and the tiler strongly recommended that we used flexible adhesive and grout. Even after doing this, he said to keep a couple boxes of tiles spare as if there is a large settlement...

How do you fix a young tree broken in half?

I have heard of this being successfully done. It would be similar to grafting onto a tree. However afraid I don't have any details on products to use or where to get them. The person I heard had used it was repair slightly thinner trees than yours though. I'd say best bet is to ring around...

Internal Insulated slabs - window frame dimensions?

All you need are the metal fixings. The plastic ones are not suitable as they can melt during a fire, leaving the slab unsecured. It is recommended to put a firestop along the bottom of the boards to prevent a fire getting up between slab and wall. Options here would including something...
