    Proprietary Director - Termination Payment

As an IT contractor, I have been a class S proprietary director and employee of a company that I aim to voluntarily strike off as I have taken up permanent employment. If the company is winding down as a result of my own change in circumstances, can the company legitimately pay me a termination...

    Morgan Kelly on Bank Robbers

Giving them this money now allows them to continue as a bank and to continue to contribute further to the liabilities of the guarantee. Better to wind them down in an orderly fashion starting immediately. That's the point of the "incineration" comment. Give them €1.5bn now and you effectively...

    Most undervalued currency?

An amateurs perspective on it..... At present, alot of it is related to interest-rates. Japanese savers/investors are taking advantage of higher interest rates in other countries by selling Yen to buy NZD for example, even borrowing to do so. Since they're borrowing at a BoJ rate of 0.25%...

Contracts signed closing set Buyers trying to pull out

Exactly - if morals came into it, the buyer wouldn't be going back on their word.

Declined for €10k car loan & don't understand..

With two dependents, would the banks not lean towards the lower end of this range? Also, what type of mortgage do you have - fixed, or tracker/variable. I think this may be significant in that banks might be pricing a couple of rate rises in on top of the 1600 a month you already pay. You...

    Start Mortgages: threatened legal proceedings

Re: Advice,Start Mortgages threatened legal proceedings, Help!! Sounds like you're doing well so, it's a tough market so you're willing to discount your price to get the sale. Hopefully you'll get it sale agreed within the 2.5 months so.

    Start Mortgages: threatened legal proceedings

Re: Advice,Start Mortgages threatened legal proceedings, Help!! How does the price compare to similar houses in the locality? Bearing in mind that the market is very soft at the moment, you may need to undercut the current crop of houses in order to get your sale. How many other houses are...

Spending money to get higher sale price on house

I'm with redo on decluttering and de-personalising - this is probably the most important thing to do. Fresh coat of neutral paint, and use paintings/curtains/bedspreads etc to bring in a colour scheme - all of these things yield the best return because you bring them with you when you move...

    Start Mortgages: threatened legal proceedings

Re: Advice,Start Mortgages threatened legal proceedings, Help!! I wouldn't dismiss renting at all in your case. On a place worth 320-350k, you must be able to rent a similar house for half your current mortgage repayments, if not less. You're paying a massive premium for owning your own home...

    The Gold thread

That's a four year timeframe for investing in equities.... that's a bit short, isn't it? Seriously though, at 10k I'd concentrate on building wealth before adjusting strategy to conserving wealth. Turning €500 to €1000 is like an extra weeks wages for most people in Ireland now - it is small...

    The Gold thread

To be fair, someone with total investments of 10k or so doesn't need a hedge like gold. They'd be better off sticking the whole lot in equities and trying to build their wealth before they start trying to protect it.

    The Gold thread

The thread is about the merits of investing in gold, posting available commentary etc. I wouldn't imagine there's much interest in tracking ebay prices because there probably aren't too many people looking to sell gold coins at any given time.

    Future Shock: Property Crash

I noticed that too - it just goes to show how brainwashed we've become as a nation... everybody thinks there's a property investor in them just bursting to get out, despite not having a clue about interest rates and how they work.

    Halifax High Interest Current Account

The bit in bold is wrong, they'll pay 10% interest on balances up to €2000, but you don't need to maintain at least €2k in the account. Basically, transfer in €1500 a month and you're sorted.

    Future Shock: Property Crash

If that's the case, the Fed is doing a pretty lousy job, isn't it! Oh, and the ECB don't have a property bubble to worry about. They have a blip out on the edge of the Atlantic. Where do people get this blind faith from? If central banks were doing their job, we wouldn't have property...

    Future Shock: Property Crash

Central Bank just revised 2007 GNP growth forecast down from 5.75% to 4.75%. http://www.rte.ie/business/2007/0418/economy.html S&P and other ratings agencies have been caught out big time in the sub-prime collapse in the states - they're not infallible either.

    Future Shock: Property Crash

So on the one hand we have Power saying everythings hunky-dory and will continue to be hunky-dory forever. On the other hand, you have Kelly saying forget about external shocks and all that, this bubble will crash. Frankly, I think the seeds of the crash are in the construction sector itself...

    Future Shock: Property Crash

Yeah, you see you can't have a crash without a bubble. When will people realise that rising house prices has been the problem, subsequent falling house prices merely a resultant symptom!

    Future Shock: Property Crash

Not having a go at Jim Power myself (at least he can debate his point, instead of spinning it) but surely history is littered with people of JP's "experience and track record" who have been made look very foolish by market reversals? To think that he must be right because he's done well for...
