    eircom efibre problems

Would you believe it I was able to contact eircom support yesterday!! There are "giving me" two homeplugs to see if they work. I also had to change the router settings but alas this made no diference. The signal is definitely rising/falling in the room where the tv is. The tv is a Sony Bravia...

    eircom efibre problems

Thanks folks. I just can understand why the wifi download speed can drop from 20meg to 1meg when tested near the smart tv. Five minutes later the test could show 20meg on Wifi. I could hard wire the smart tv from the router(with a bit of difficulty) but this should not be needed with the wifi...

    eircom efibre problems

Hi All. We have recently installed the eircom efibre. Whilst the download speeds fluctuate between 10 and 25meg (using wifi around the house) we are having problems watching netflix, Eplayer etc on a smart tv as the picture appears to hang. This smart tv is a couple of rooms away from the modem...

Adding other channels to favourites on sky box

Thanks Sparkrite. I have ordered a card for ebay and if this works this will do me nicely for the time being. I did look at EVision as I have recently signed up for EFibre but they could not supply any itv signal(s).

replacing pellet boiler with more efficient system - need advice

Having been involved in building/mechanical services education for the past 30 years I can definitely say that building service graduates/engineers would have little or no experience of domestic heating systems. It simply is not on the schedule of training whilst they are in college. Plumbing...

replacing pellet boiler with more efficient system - need advice

Is there such a a person as a heating engineer in this country? To the best of my knowledge there is no course available in a college/university in this country that provides programs for the training of "Heating Engineers". A experienced suitably qualified plumbing/heating contractor should be...

    solar pump not cutting out

Hi Lads. I'm not sure if there is a holiday mode in the Potterton controller but this problem seems to sporadic. When the pump is running at night it is not guaranteed that the cylinder has been heated to it's full capacity. This form of heat dumping seems to transfer only a small (if any)...

    solar pump not cutting out

Hi Shane. All was working quite nicely with plenty of heat in cyl. and pump cutting off as it should be. Came home last night at 11.45, low and behold pump was circulating. I did a manual shut off and that stopped that. Pump has kicked in this morning(as the sun is out) so I'll keep an eye on...

    solar pump not cutting out

Hi Folks. This a question for all the solar wizzes out there Since the end of the warm weather last week my pump on the solar installation is refusing to turn off, even at night. I'm just wondering is this down to a faulty sensor or faulty controller. I have taken out the lower sensor to see if...

Fuel burning stove with back boiler not heating rads.

Hiya Jimmyjo. Just spotted you enquiry. I would check out Olymberyl, Hunter or stanley stoves with boilers. They should range in price from 1.500-2000 euros in price. The best place to buy these stoves would be in a plumbers merchant/ co-op/creamery or a large general hardware store like MD...

Swapping a Back Boiler for a Stove

A back boiler has to be installed in an open vented system. If a backboiler/stove is fitted with a closed system and there is a power cut, your circulating pump will cease to operate(this pump circulates the water around the system thus dissipating the heat) leading to a build up of extremely...

    Air keeps getting into radiator

If there is a leak in the gas fired heating system it would be advisable to turn off the gas/electric supply to the boiler and repair the leak

    Air keeps getting into radiator

You can put a leak sealant into the system but this will entail draining down the heating system. This may only work for a short space of time as well. Having to blead a radiator more than twice a year is not good for the heating syatem, as you are introducing oxygenated water into a system with...

    Air keeps getting into radiator

If the radiator needs venting regularly this may be a sign that you have a leak in your heating system or your system is pitching.

Dual open coal fire backboiler 5 rads, piping hot with Oil but only lukewarm with BB.

It may be as simple as cleaning the boiler plate. A lot of back boilers/wrap around boilers become coated with a very heavy slag build up which stops the conduction heat transfer from the coals to the water inside the boiler. This slag will have to be scraped using a good paint scraper and...

Combining solar, solid fuel stove/boiler and gas.

Just wondering, is there such a person as a heating engineer in this country and if so, where does one get such a qualification? I'm not sure is there such a qualification/engineering degree available in any Irish university/Insitiute of Technology. I know that heating services/control comes...
