BOI not moving with their rates for me

That's a pity about the timing for you. Thanks for the info though.

BOI not moving with their rates for me

Skyler White, just fyi I rang BOI to look for the 2.8% rate in the last week or two also. Their line was that 2.9% was the lowest rate they could offer. I said I was aware they'd offered 2.8% to other customers and that we'd switch unless they offered us the same. No budging from them as of...

    BOI possible switch

The Ulster Bank 2.3% is for 2 years. So a comparison over 2 years would be (seems to me): UB €250,000 * 0.023 * 2yrs = €11,500 interest and then minus cashback of €1,500 is €10,000. So 'costs' that much. BOI €250,000 * 0.03 * 2yrs = €15,000 interest and then minus cashback of €5,000 (2% of...

BoI cashback extended to 30th Sept

Yeah I was told that by them on the phone last month and it's been said on here before. Not sure how it works if you apply to 2 banks at the same time though.

BoI cashback extended to 30th Sept

Huh. Never thought of that. Will that work as a way to circumvent their rule that you have to be with previous lender for at least 12 months?

45,000 ptsb customers who could apply for a lower rate, have not done so.

I seem to remember PTSB often mentioned in their press releases for changing their variable rate that a large part of their mortgage customer base had relatively small mortgages and therefore any change to the rate had only a small impact individually. At least that was the justification they...

Solicitor has not paid off the old mortgage yet

Hi That'sLegal!? Just from my own experience, my switch completed in the last couple of weeks. There was no delay between drawing down the new mortgage and paying off the old. As far as I could tell my solicitor had the appropriate figure from the old bank already confirmed and it seemed like...

ptsb introduces fixed rates for existing customers

After too long being trapped by PTSB and paying punitive interest we're finally in a position to switch. I'm not even giving PTSB a courtesy of a phone call to let them know. I estimated (back of envelope) that being stuck with PTSB had cost in the region of €15,000 over the years as against...

If you are paying 4.5% SVR to Bank of Ireland or permanent tsb, you have only yourself to blame!

It does seem peculiar that the take-up for the PTSB MVRs is so low. I'd wonder though how many customers are like me, that is still have an LTV of over 90%? I wouldn't consider myself a real outlier (maybe I am?) but although house prices are increasing the LTV is still too high - and I've...

CB says Irish mortgage rates far higher than EU average

Closely followed by Permanent TSB I'd say. Still waiting here. Time ticks on - still being fleeced. Might be time to get writing to the Minister for Finance again.

FF Bill to tackle mortgage rates to be debated on Tuesday and Wednesday night

I guess we'll have to see what the Attorney General's advice is. Catherine Martin spoke well but she may or may not be correct. Sure some crowd called Investec seem to have concerns and Noonan bizarrely cited them. When Investec take over from the AG's office well all be rightly screwed. I...

FF Bill to tackle mortgage rates to be debated on Tuesday and Wednesday night

The pre-vetting thing just hasn't come in yet. Sure it's probably a good thing for bills but Noonan wanted to delay this bill for vetting for SIX months. Delays and barriers. There should be opportunity at committee stage to analyse and amend any legitimate concerns on the provisions. Is the...

FF Bill to tackle mortgage rates to be debated on Tuesday and Wednesday night

All FF speakers spoke in favour of it of course. It was accepted by almost everyone that any flaws could be investigated at committee stage. Most bills evolve while passing through the oireachtas. I think the test will be will Noonan and co work on it to improve it or will they continue to put...

FF Bill to tackle mortgage rates to be debated on Tuesday and Wednesday night

Great to see the bill pass second stage. Well done Brendan and all. And fair play to Michael McGrath for keeping with this. Hopefully there's proper engagement from all sides in committee stage to make the bill an effective tool to help fix the mortgage market. I'm sick to the teeth of paying...

AIB announces 0.25% cut in mortgage rate + €2,000 for switchers

It all adds to the pressure in my view. Rates have stayed too high because ultimately there hasn't been the political will to force them down. Recapitalisation has seemed to be the priority. I'm sure the bill isn't perfect but it's this sort of action that will make the difference I think.

Central Bank telling the truth some months and lies other months about mortgage rates

I'm just a Joe Soap reading the report from a non-financial background. However Irish new business loan-to-deposit spreads for households have increased sharply over recent years (Chart 9). Spreads have increased from circa 100 basis points at end-April 2012 to almost 379 basis points at...

    Barriers to Switching Mortgages

So what does that mean? The CB are not requiring switchers to comply with LTI and LTV limits but each bank would have its own standards for what they require in order to accept a switcher? Potentially a bank could accept a switcher with an LTV above 80% if it chose to? Anyone know of any...

Anyone got letter re lower rates from PTSB?

Hi. I'm similar but not quite the same. On a discounted variable rate of 4.36. Still in negative equity so presumably will reduce from 4.36 to 4.30.. That's about €10 a month I think. Huzzah! Will be interesting to see how they reckon your situation. Would you be absolutely surprised if they...

should I switch to ptsb or aib?

I'm not sure. Being State owned they can't be too much of an outlier anymore I suppose. I think it's right to look at their behaviour in the past though to see how they might treat their customers in the future. AIB didn't inflict a rate of over 5.5% in recent years... Also ptsb are still loss...

should I switch to ptsb or aib?

ptsb's record of milking their captured variable rate customers is appalling. Personally I'll be taking the first opportunity to get out from under their clutches. Sorry I don't know if there is a claw back with their offer.
