Beware of 10 year parts warranties on household appliances.

So very recently I had this experience. I have a seven year old indesit washing machine and the drum bearings went. So bearings are normally €30 or so but in my case the drum and basin thing are all one part, which have to be replaced as a unit and was €300/400 to order. As much as a new machine...

Losses on shares, where is the official wording on the four-weeks period after the selling please?

Interesting. I can't see a contradiction of your interpretation in the Act or the TDM. https://www.revenue.ie/en/tax-professionals/tdm/income-tax-capital-gains-tax-corporation-tax/part-19/19-04-03.pdf

    Are civil service pensions funded?

In fairness to (pre-09) public servants the real inflexibility is the (post facto) income taxation ex officio. Does anywhere else in the world have sectoral specific income taxation?

Electric Cars - a ridiculous product

I'm sure that's true. From a policy point of view, I'm in favour of making it make financial sense for you! (Nothing personal!) I would support heavily penalising the use of diesel for private transport, particularly for the 64% of the population who live in urban areas.

Paying retrospective into 2023 (last years) pension contribution

When you select the year, there should be an option for view and amend, which you should click the latter.

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

I think with a WFH option nowadays, most people take a similar approach to you. They can achieve a better balance, particularly for younger workers climbing the ladder. They don't have to feel like they are missing out, like they would have in the past. Sounds like a win for the public sector.

    Default Investment Strategy

I wonder would Ciaran Hancock have you on the podcast to speak about the alternative @Colm Fagan? Perhaps Brendan has the contact? Raising awareness of the alternative, now that its been validated, would be a good way to stoke the conversation (which is external pressure on the PC).

Electric Cars - a ridiculous product

Well you need a bidirectional charger to do that, but fear not, that technology is not far away. In fact the lowly Nissan Leaf is one of the few with that technology. It might move the needle for more people if the electric car can transform the time of consumption of electricity...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

My employer required (forced?) 20% WFH prior to Covid, sold as balance, but really they had 20% more employees than office space. Now its 40% WFH, what's the difference?

Electric Cars - a ridiculous product

Fair enough point. But there are also costs to the negative externalities which have to be paid for, including combusting fossil fuels whether in a power plant, car engine or a jet engine. Currently the cost is different (and hence subsidised), depending on what type of fossil fuel and where its...

Electric Cars - a ridiculous product

No issue per se, but its a fairly pointless vehicle. Its raison d'etre is a tax swizz as far as I can make out. My car is an ex-lease UK import. It was used to get low road tax and congestion charges in the UK. It was a high millage car so by the time we got it, I can say that it would never...
