    East Wall

A couple of nice cafes have opened in the last few years on East Road & Church Road. For groceries, East Wall Road has a large Lidl and an Aldi. The area is improving but still not without its issues. Something like a northside version of Rialto maybe...

    Increase contributions or savings?

Sounds like you need to save a larger chunk of change to be able to buy a house you are happy with. I would definitely be focusing efforts on this, rather than pension contributions right now.

Dublin City Centre - Car Restrictions

Yes successive governments have failed in this regard, but if the use of cars is limited within city, other options such as public transport, cycling etc., will automatically become more viable, as there will be fewer cars restricting their movement. In addition, there have been significant...

    Are fee-paying schools worth it?

Like anything, i think it is important to consider the alternatives. In some parts of Dublin, parents feel under pressure to send their kids to fee-paying schools because the local schools in their area may have particularly poor reputations & have a low % of students progressing to 3rd level...

Thinking of getting rid of oil and installing electric heaters

If your boiler is old but still working, i would focus any investment right now on acheiving the maximum level of insulation possible. This will bring down your annual energy requirement, which will in turn allow you to consider a better range of options when it comes to replacing your boiler...

Can I refuse to have my ESB Meter replaced with a Smart Meter?

Yeah, obviously they weren't designed with that in mind but it's a neat side effect for anyone who has one & is generating their own electricity. The eventual roll-out of smart meters to all will eliminate this, so enjoy it while you have it.

Can I refuse to have my ESB Meter replaced with a Smart Meter?

Yes, a certain brand of the old meters goes backwards if you're generating a surplus. Tell your friend to hang onto it as long as they can!

Revolut switching from Lithuanian IBANs to Irish IBANs

I wonder will this mean more changes towards matching the features of a regular bank account such as the ability to have a Joint Account, which currently isn't possible with Revolut?

    Mattress Disposal

The Bring Centre in Swords Estuary takes them. They charge per car/boot load so try bring other stuff you need to throw out too. They take almost all categories of waste.

New Dutch bank bunq launches current account with Irish IBAN

It's a contender for me, as the only thing missing from Revolut banking for me was the ability to have a joint account, which appears to be possible with Bunq.

KBC Ireland set to give current account holders 90 days to move

So should KBC mortgage and current account holders move now or will this mean losing our current account discount on monthly repayments?

Key Post Rating the personal online banking for current accounts from AIB,BoI, PTSB and EBS

Wow, that sounds really bad. I was hoping for a relatively smooth transition from KBC to AIB but it sounds like the online experience will be somewhat less pleasant.

    Revolut Loans

Is it possible to use Revolut Banking now as a replacement for a KBC Joint Current Account? I love the existing Revolut app but one of the disadvantages for me it the lack of Joint/Shared access.

Revolut Bank open for deposits and loans from today

Same as that. I think a lot of people would be interested if you can use it effectively as a Current Account, with maybe a back-up a/c from EBS in case of any cheque or cash lodgements. It would also be important to some to find out if Joint Accounts are now permitted, as this wasn't possible...

Revolut Bank open for deposits and loans from today

When you conclude that it's just a holding account with no interest applicable, in an era of zero interest rates, does this really matter? I suppose what most people want to know is can they simply use Revolut as a Current Account now. This would be especially attractive to UB and KBC customers...

Revolut Bank open for deposits and loans from today

One disadvantage with the Revolut app i find is that it doesn't allow Joint Accounts. Will this be the same with the Revolut Bank i wonder?

Out of interest, why do you ask? Do you foresee it being an issue?

Swallow Break Fee or Port Loan?

No, i think your calc was done on the assumption that my full loan would be subject to the 2.99% 10yr rate from KBC, but i've since noted that €283,500 of the loan is on a 2yr fixed rate of 2.3%. Does this not skew things and make it a bit less of a no-brainer?

Swallow Break Fee or Port Loan?

I'm a bit lost now. How long will it take me to recover the 11k Break Fee, given the difference in interest rates between the two rates I'll be on in kbc, and the new rate I'd be on if I go with Avant?

Swallow Break Fee or Port Loan?

Given my clarifications above regarding the larger portion (slightly) of the loan being fixed for 2yrs at 2.3%, does this statement still apply? My monthly repayments to kbc will be €2044. With Avant they'll be €1934. I'd never get back the 11k Break Fee, or am I missing something? Point taken...
