Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Hi all, thanks for your advice. I am going to try see how it goes with renting it out for a year or so and then go with the other option if it becomes clear that its not working out. I have considered tax liabilities and will get more advice later on, but as I understand it most of the income...

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

So just to be sure, are you guys advising that the best thing I do is walk away from the house and debt and never look back? I'll quite happily do that if there are no legal ramifications from it.

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Hi Noah, 1. I'm not. 2. Its a family home in a nice area and I had it up to a great standard when I left, so I believe it won't be a problem to continue letting it. The family have never been a problem and moved to my home for more space. 3. As I understand it, the bank will hold us jointly...

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Hi Bronte, I'm sorry if you feel I'm being combative or contrary, I certainly didn't mean to give that impression! I'm here to ask for advice, and to learn what the best thing to do in my situation. I understand it is best to view these things divorced of emotion, so while I would like to cut...

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

I don't think I'm crazy, I'm normally quite clear minded about financial matters. Wouldn't it be more expensive in the long term to pay off the neg equity? What am I missing?

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Well it is either an > €80k shortfall that she will refuse to pay anyway, or I manage things this way. I will manage it traditionally when I finally leave Europe - I will use an estate agent I know personally which will cost around €50 a month (when I last got a quote). I do believe the overall...

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Right well putting my thoughts in order and describing them here appears to have helped as I talked it over with my ex again and she has agreed to let me maintain the property as a rental as long as I don't expect her to contribute to it in any way. So yay for me. Anyway it was good to see that...

Divorced, House in Neg Equity in Cork, Currently let - she wants to sell

Hi all, My ex-wife and I own a house with a mortgage of 240,000 and a value of around 160,000 if we are lucky. I returned to the UK so we could get divorced more quickly and so we would both have a good shot at rebuilding our lives. I returned to Uni and she found a job. She returned a couple...

    Rental Car - exorbitant bill

Any time I pick up a rental car at night I confirm with them that I will be reviewing the car in the morning and they have always said that there is no problem with that. I have spotted scratches in the daylight and reported them the next day without penalty. I have recently taken to paying for...

    toshiba or dell laptop

Does it have to be either of them? I have a lot of confidence in Acer laptops which are well laid out and high specced for the price.

How long does it take to get speeding ticket

The ticket finally arrived after 9 weeks. Curiously according to the penalty points fact sheet I got after paying it, the points remain on my licence record indefinitely until I have an Irish Licence on which they can be endorsed. Only after they are endosed does the expiry period on the points...

How long does it take to get speeding ticket

Hi sse, I was aware of the shadow licence so I won't be getting an Irish licence. It doesn't matter anyway as I will be returning to the UK next year. I have a photocard that will expire 2013. I'm very aware of my speed now anyway, so the experience did the trick.

How long does it take to get speeding ticket

I just called up Thurles and they told me no ticket has been issued (or logged) yet, although the Garda has three months to do so. Seeing as I was stopped almost 6 weeks ago, it seems a bit odd that the they haven't issued the paperwork just yet. Do you think they couldn't be bothered?

Latest advert for car insurance - has anyone got it for €280

How long does it take to get speeding ticket

Thank you. I am still a little concerned as the mail in my area is abysmal - post seems to take forever to arrive if at all. If it doesn't come in the next few weeks who do I inform so that proceedings are not issued against me? I don't want the hastle of going to court, even if it is to explain...

How long does it take to get speeding ticket

I hope this is the right thread to append this question to - I was caught by an unmarked Garda car doing 144 km/h on the motor way (i.e. 120 km/h zone) on the sunday 2 weeks back and I am still awaiting a ticket. Who do I contact if I don't receive the ticket as I was told I need to pay it in...

    Small debt left in Australia

I accidently left a debt of £10 with NTL in the UK when I moved to Ireland. When I remembered and went to pay it (a month late) I discovered they had already sold it on to a debt collection and a while later I had some quite scary letters from the agency with hiked up fees on them making there...

Separation and joint responsibility for house

I have a follow up question to this query. I am planning on moving back to England late next year to start a PhD, so my salary is going to be very much reduced for at least 4 years, even if I take on part time work etc. I will not be returning to Ireland, and in fact intend to migrate to Canada...

This website is getting very quiet

I don't think AAM is a forum for regular discussions and tittle tattle - there are some allowances for such in the Depths, but even there it is heavily moderated with discussions locked if they go on too long or ramble too much. I realised that a long time ago and usually only contribute here if...
