    Retrofitting 1960s house

Thanks for the info everyone. Wrt the professors points, my dad leaves in a similar house to the one we are buying and it is such a cold house. They have double glazed windows, a porch door and the attic is insulated but the walls are breeze block walls (I think this is what they are called, the...

    Retrofitting 1960s house

We are sale agreed on a 1960s 3 bed semi with garage in Dublin. It has gas central heating but the windows are single glazed. We would like to retrofit it (at present it is supposed to be a BER rating of F). The house also needs to be rewired. Ideally we will rent and get the rewiring done...

maple flooring with ivory, oak or walnut cabinets

Hi Tks for the replies. The person who came to take measurements brought the 3 different doors. Off white/ivory won! The oak was too similar yet too different to the maple floors and the dark walnut was just too dark and bland so we are going with off white. Dh who was mad keen to get oak is...

maple flooring with ivory, oak or walnut cabinets

Thanks I am afraid the oak will clash. If we got walnut I would definitely go with dark walnut. Dh likes the idea of wood and thinks it is horrible to have painted solid wood -nicer to show the grain. Good idea about getting samples. Hopefully the shop will give/lend us some.

Commuting Kilkenny to Dublin via train

I have 3 children and my commute to work is about 1 hour. I find it very tiring especially if I have been up during the night with the kids. 1 hour is long enough. The hard part is that no matter how early or late I leave for work I am an hour away. You don't mention if you have children but it...

I too have a good brand washing machine and have found after sale service dreadful. I have been without a washing machine for 3 weeks at times. It is disgraceful that it takes so long. Discussion: Should ban on sale of smokey coal be extended to small rural areas?

Yes definitely should be band. I live in a small town and it can be very smokey in winter. 2 of my kids have asthma so I can't bring them out for walks in the evening in winter at times or leave my windows open.

When did Morgan Kelly first identify the property bubble?

In some part of the country they have reached 1999 prices and in some cases even less when you convert the present price back to punts. The realistically priced houses on daft or myhome are around 1999 prices (we bought our house that year so know the prices for Dublin and Meath back then).

Selling a house -choosing an estate agent etc.

Hi my husband wants to sell a house he has owned for over 20 years. Up until now it was occupied by a dependent relative (no rent paid). The relative has passed away and husband wants to sell the house. We have a few questions about estate agents - how do we go about choosing an EA? Some houses...
