Brendan - what's your motivation in tackling PTSB?

You seem to have singled out PTSB. Why has there not been sections started on some of the other banks? Smart mortgages for example, make PTSB look like pussycats. I also felt your original post was rather emotive and confusing. On the one hand you call for the Govt to tell PTSB to cut rates, on...

Brendan - what's your motivation in tackling PTSB?

I want to make this clear, I am not condoning PTSB in anyway, I think their behaviour in many cases has been appalling but then so has the behaviour of most of the banks.

Brendan - what's your motivation in tackling PTSB?

Moved from this thread so as not to take it off topic you said in another post earlier this week We borrowed the money ourselves. The ordinary Irish punter borrowed money from the banks to buy their homes ( and investment properties and overseas investment properties). Let's not blame the...

Central Bank is examining the possibility of banning future variable rate mortgages.

They are talking about future mortgages, not current ones. In effect it would mean that in times of high interest rates, the mortgage holder would be in a better position and vice versa when rates are low. No different to taking out a fixed mortgage now

Referendum a golden opportunity for debt forgiveness

Banks have a duty under the Cental Bank Consumer Protection code to 1: act honestly, fairly and professionally in the best interests of its customers and the integrity of the market; 2 act with due skill, care and diligence in the best interests of its customers; 3 not recklessly, negligently...

Bank taking money from a non-related account

Apologies, wasn't clear from your first mail. Mary needs to first formally raise a complaint with the bank in writing, the charity needs to do likewise. If this does need to go further, then the Ombudsman will normally only get involved once the banks internal complaints process is exhausted.

Referendum a golden opportunity for debt forgiveness

There's an opportunity here but there is also another possibility if we vote no, basically that the EU decides that we're out and doesn't give us the opportunity to vote again. Remember that because of Cameron, this is not an EU wide treaty that requires all countries to sign up. having said...

Bank taking money from a non-related account

A bank can have the legal right to take money from one account to cover off the debt in another, but only if the funds in the accounts belong to the debtor. There are a number of possibilities here -This is an urban myth with no basis in fact or -This is a genuine mistake by the bank or -The...

    100% mortgages- really so bad?

There is a 2nd risk, namely that in a time of declining house prices, were the bank to foreclose on you, you are more likely to be in negative equity with a 100% LTV and potentially, if the house was sold from under you, still have a debt outstanding at the end of it

Well known personalities - what are they like?

yes, from de real capital boy Weird thing about O'Connell was that it happened at Heuston Station during the snow earlier in the year. Everyone was wrapped up to the nines in big coats, hats and scarves and he had a sweatshirt and jeans on and no coat. Think O'Gara has been given a hard...

Hike for bus and rail travellers

In fairness, they are only at the start of what I've heard mentioned is a 12 month roll out of the card, with capping, season tickets and free travel all to come, + Bus Eireann and the independent bus operators As for a flat fare, fine in theory, but it would probably result in a fare rise for...

    100% mortgages- really so bad?

Assuming no change in interest rates then your mortgage payment shouldn't change over the lifetime of the mortgage. However if you start with an 80% LTV, then obviously your payments will be less then if you'd started at 100%

Well known personalities - what are they like?

Roy Keane, saw him sitting at Dublin Airport one afternoon having a pint and quite happily signing authographs for anyone that asked. Very polite and nice and couldn't fault him. Paul O'Connell appologised to me after he bumped into me with a bag, bit of a gentle giant, at least off the pitch

    Having a good ol RANT!!

Similer to me, only cousins we had were those out of neccessity to drive elderly/infirm uncles and aunts. Aside from that, we figured that no matter what we did, we were going to offend someone, so we might as well offend the whole blinking lot of them. This was right at the height of the...

No-one is forced to be in a union? Discuss.

Personally speaking I worked for a major bank for years and was never in the union and I'd estimate that no more then half the staff there were members. I have heard similer stories about the Civil Service, not so much that you had to join but that you wouldn't get anywhere if you didn't...
