Job Seekers and Part Time Work

Thank you all. Annie, I could cry...I really feel it is ridiculous. NHG, I understand the principle...but he is still ACTIVELY seeking other work (he is a college grad) and he is also available....he would give up this job in a heartbeat if a full time one turned up. There is some leeway...

Job Seekers and Part Time Work

My son has been receiving Jobseekers Allowance of 105 euros a week (reduced because of my income and the fact that he is 23) He recently got taken on by a well known shop for the Christmas period and has been promised 15 to 20 hours a week @ 9.70 an hour. He was thrilled. I was sure he would...

Transfer money to UK bank account form AIB?

You can do it online no problem, so long as you have the IBAN and BIC but because the currency is different there is a charge....15 euro I think with AIB regardless of the amount being transferred. Then of course there is the exchange rate too. I wish they'd join the euro.....

In-Flight CC purchase - not appearing on statement.

I made a purchase on a Ryanair flight in January this year and it did not come through on my CC statement till early April. I agree, it is an absolute pain....in my case I had negotiated the interest on the existing balance to 1.9%, but that was contingent on no more purchases!! I was able to...

How do you fund a refurb?

Have to say that my experience last August (08) was that the bank (Halifax) would only accept the valuation pre refurbishment. I was in the position of owning the house without a mortgage but I wanted to raise around 250k to undertake major building work....basically the house was to be...

Credit card interest rate 3.9 % till October.

Thanks Demoivre and Moneyhoney.....yes I was very sceptical and that's why I posted here....but I rang them today and the rate definitely applies to cheques as well...I do take the point though about paying off at least the minimum on the putative 5000. JQuinn, I'm very interested to hear that...

Credit card interest rate 3.9 % till October.

I have an MBNA credit card which I pay off every month. I've had a letter from them informing me that I can avail of a transfer interest rate of 3.9 % till October. I can also write a cheque drawn on the credit card for the same rate, up to 90% of my credit limit....(which is 20000) I also...

    Credit Union Loan

Hmmmm....possibly. I didn't feel like the hassle of renegotiating the mortgage in the credit crunch era. Credit union is so simple. Expecting a lump sum in a couple of years time and will clear loan then.

    Credit Union Loan

Mine was for 50k and the repayments are around 270 per fortnight over 10 years. I say around 270 as I haven't the actual documentation here....Note that the repayment is fortnightly.

Halifax tracker - any rate decrease notification?

The 8th of October rate cut will be reflected in your December repayment and the more recent cut, in January. I rang Halifax on Monday just gone by, feeling really irritated that I had heard nothing....(still haven't a letter by the way) and that is what I was told. Hope this helps.

How to cancel Ryanair flights online?

In answer to the last post you can in theory claim the taxes back but in any case where I have tried to do this....mostly with Ryanair and mostly between Ireland and the UK....the 'administration'cost was more than the cost of the taxes. To the OP, there is no advantage to be gained by...

    Euro to Sterling

Thanks GDE. And any thoughts on the euros prospects over the next few weeks? I know the amount I want to exchange is peanuts in the banks terms but not to me!!

    Euro to Sterling

My partner who lives in the UK has an investment property there with a mortgage on it. As the euro is so good at the moment and we have a little of it to spare we have decided to pay about 6 or 7 thousand euro off the sterling mortgage. Does any one know which bank would give me the best...

Madeira Island:a suitable holiday destination for elderly? hilly?

Re: Madeira Island Was in Madeira about 4 years ago and enjoyed a very relaxing holiday. Funchal was lovely and we had a great bustour of the city. There wasn't a huge amount of nightlife which suited us well enough at the time and it was quiet enough for seniors to enjoy....no rowdies. It IS...

    Liverpool Airport

Most UK airports including Liverpool INSIST you only have one bag as you go through security....which means for women, leaving space in your hand baggage for your handbag!! The airlines, even Ryanair, don't mind hand baggage AND a handbag. The security staff are obviously just following rules to...

Any chance of getting NIB to pay legal fees for a non-switcher?

Eamonn, Like yourself I was a nonswitcher and stupidly I assumed that NIB would pay my legal fees but it turned out they wouldn't. I didn't pursue it as I decided not to go ahead with the mortgage for a different reason. However I would love to know how you get on if you chase them up about it...

Difficulty setting up mortgage on a house I already own.

Sorry PM1234 I didn't answer one part of your question. No I didn't want to draw it all down now....just the amount of the personal loan....about 25% of the 40%...ie 10% of the total loan.
