Have I overpaid Tax, Advice appreciated

It might be irrelevant unless it drops you below the 20% cut off threshold. If deducting the 6k from your salary still leaves you over the cut off you are going to have to pay tax on all the rental profits at the higher rate anyway.

Affordable Housing and Capital Gains Tax

The period of time you lived there as your PPR would reduce the gain

Affordable Housing and Capital Gains Tax

CGT will be based on the price you paid vs the price you sell for and the gain on that, so if you paid 170k and are selling for 210k the gain is 40k

    Affordable housing - Clawback

It is definitely not the case but I think they are confusing the issue with the original purchase price. The mortgage value has nothing to do with the clawback

    Affordable housing - Clawback

Sorry but this isn't true, all proceeds above the original purchase price would though

    Affordable housing - Clawback

No there would be no clawback, you need to sell above 249.8k to trigger any clawback

    Halloween 2021.

Yes, they need to celebrate and enjoy themselves. I personally don't think there is any more risk to letting them go to school or go play with their friends and all their other social and sporting activities

    Affordable housing - Clawback

Just be careful with that assumption as they may try to add the years yo haven't lived there to the clawback term if they can.

Easing of Restrictions from 10th May

I agree with some of the things you say but calling people stupid because they have concerns over a vaccine is a bit harsh. There is a lot of misinformation which doesn't help. There will cases of COVID for the foreseeable future and we may never be able to eliminate it so we will have to learn...

Easing of Restrictions from 10th May

Not sure I agree, we can all potentially put people at risk with other virus' flu etc. and are not forced to do anything. Is COVID more lethal to someone vaccinated against it then flu to someone not vaccinated against flu. There are also thousands of young adults that never received the MMR and...

Easing of Restrictions from 10th May

If enough people are vaccinated does it really matter if there are some that refuse? they shouldn't be any threat to the vaccinated or am I wrong. There are people who genuinely are afraid to take the vaccine and I don't think they should be punished. I personally don't like the way the...

    Zero Covid

Zero COVID was never an option for us with a boarder on the island with the UK and some of the dail advocates were just doing the usual and saying it for the sake of opposing. I wouldn't go as far to say it was a genius decision by Leo and Micheál's though and I am not anti government by any means.

Easing of restrictions from April 12th

Fair point and I agree with you, I misinterpreted your earlier statement when you said it seemed crazy that older vaccinated people should be allowed get back to normal but what you are saying is that it is crazy not to let everyone get back to normal once they are vaccinated.

Easing of restrictions from April 12th

What has that got to do with capacity?
  19. B

Easing of restrictions from April 12th

I agree but I think hospital capacity dictated what we could and couldn't do but I don't think it makes sense now to say we need to wait until everyone is vaccinated to open up again. I am curious to know how they are going to monitor who is vaccinated and who is not

Easing of restrictions from April 12th

Seems logical to let people that are vaccinated to start getting back to some normality, isn't that the point of the vaccination?
