Any reason to NOT opt in to 'smart meter services' ..?

They are limited in what plans they can sell by the providers - however, they have to show all rates available as part of their licence - so if you are doing a review - make sure you select the option to show all plans, including those not available to sign up on-line.

    Smart Smoke Alarms

Would also recommend the Google Nest ones - have 4 in the house - wired to replace the dumb ones there before that used to go off too easily - the Nest ones warn you and can be silenced, and also work for CO as well as Smoke. Have them 5 years+ now and zero issues.

    Storage Boxes (plastic)

If you are storing soft furnishings - keep an eye out for the dry bags in lidl or aldi when they come out on the thursday specials (Like https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51HGV3HbdML._AC_SX679_.jpg). I use large versions of these to store my summer or winter duvets in the shed. Keeps them...

Key Post The policies of the different banks on overpaying a fixed-rate mortgage

I have been with Avant since Jan 2022, and have now paid three lump sums (as allowed). My monthly repayments have not changed, as per my request, and my confirmation letter confirms an earlier maturity date instead. I have paid 5% of the outstanding balance at the start of the year in each...

New homeowner - info on diy/energy/garden all things house related

I would normally say, "Buy cheap, Buy twice!". But when getting some tools, I have found the Aldi, Lidl stuff has worked great for me - and if i get to the stage when i have worn out a tool and need to get a new one, it shows that I have used it enough to warrant investing in a decent one.

Purchasing residential home, but has tenants not affected

I was renting a house where the landlord went into receivership. The receivers put the house up for auction with the "Tenants not affected" notice. But as soon as the sale was done I was given my notice as per minumum period based on my tenancy (4 months). The owners definitely got a good deal...

Marriage equality referendum - "rights" to kids etc.

Well, I helped set up numerous sports groups etc. for LGBT people and their friends - so I can confidently state that I would know well over 100 gay people!

Marriage equality referendum - "rights" to kids etc.

Some gay people dont like trans folk - but 99% of the gay people I know are fully accepting. Once again - its the few extreme people who get their views aired. Just like, back in the debates about marriage equality, there were a couple of gay guys who did not want equal marriage, and whom were...
