    Eircom Flotation - CGT Losses - Valentia/Vodafone/Verizon

Hi folks I am trying to determine the figures that I can use for CGT losses I made as a result of the Eircom flotation (1999). I have found the below three articles that have gone some way to help me, but I need clarification on one point, before I'm fully satisfied: A)...

    Estate Agent Admin Fees

Having experience with a 1599 euro all in agent, I couldn't fault them. Professional photographer, ads on daft and myhome, feedback logged for every viewing. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would not go with them. A house will only sell for whatever people are prepared to pay. An agent was...

    Close AIB account

Thanks for replies folks. Yes checked with my payroll and they are updating their system at present to allow for payment into N26. It may be worth opening a KBC account I think for as long as they remain fee free. But as for AIB, I'll definitely be leaving them

    Close AIB account

Hi folks. I've been with AIB for years but intend to close my account due to new fees. I was planning to switch to KBC but just wondering is there any need to have an Irish account now, or will an account with N26 be sufficient? I understand it's not possible to lodge cash or cheques with them...

    Fund options

Thanks PMU, that info is very clear and sensible. Yes, I'm invested in US stocks. I use Degiro where constructing a big US portfolio is relatively cheap fees wise. The fees for investing on UK/Euro exchanges are considerably higher so it's not really sensible to buy separate individual stocks on...

    Fund options

Ok thanks Sarenco, I missed that point on tax. All clear now. Zebedee... I suppose the message is not to get too 'fancy' on which IT trust to pick... just go for one of the main ones like FCIT so that liquidity is there. Thanks for that insight. I might steer clear of the JPMorgan one now as a...

    Fund options

Ok ... so my understanding of this is (1) for an IT you have to file tax return at "marginal rate + USC + PRSI" on both dividends, and when selling, on the IT gains, whereas (2) an Exit tax regime fund pays tax at 41% on encashment, and this tax return is all taken care of by the fund...

    Fund options

Thanks Sarenco... yes, I'm pretty much doing as you suggested. The only reason I went for the JPMorgan one is because it's a Mixed Assets fund compared to FCIT which is 100% equities... and I want to just get a fund which is slow/steady. By the sounds of it, you agree broadly that ITs are the...

    Fund options

No mortgage Pension, yes and I'm maxing out my pension with AVCs too. I have cash reserves that I want to dollar cost average into investments... but I'm also planning to keep some boxed off to take advantage of any stock market drops.

    Fund options

Just following up on this post from yesterday... I am increasingly beginning to think that Investment Trusts are the only way forward unless there are funds out there that i am completely unaware of. I spent some time looking at Life companies, and while they look good initially, the reality...

    Fund options

Hi folks Hope you are all well! I started investing with Degiro a few years back so am familiar with funding and buying stocks. Initially I was buying into a selection of US ETFs which were brilliant, but was forced to stop due to the legislation brought in around those a couple of years back...

Better option than vhi PMI 3613

Hi Snowyb Thanks for your help. I also saw Laya Inspire which gives both optical and dental cover. Ill compare your recommendations and make a decision. As an aside, it seems to me that Laya give much more outpatient benefits than vhi across their packages. I'll probably switch across to them...

Better option than vhi PMI 3613

Hi I'm currently with vhi on PMI 3613 plan. I'm 44 male with no health issues The only thing I claim for is specialist contact lenses each year. PMI 3613 only allows a claim every 24 months. I'd like to stay with vhi on similar bracket. Just wondering if anyone can recommend any better option...

How to fund InteractiveBrokers (IB) from Transferwise?

Hi Chatan You mentioned "Of course it's a bit moot now having confirmed in the meantime that it's no longer possible to purchase US-based ETFs from them". Is this true? It's not possible to purchase US ETFs from Interactive Brokers??

US ETFs -> UK Investment Trusts

Hi folks. I'm writing hoping to get some advice. I put a lot of work last year into defining a monthly investment strategy into US ETFs, but of course now that it's no longer possible to buy these, I have to go through the whole process again. I was investing monthly mainly into VEA, VTV, EZU &...

is it better stick to euro based stocks

It's about 1.5% of portfolio at the minute. I think I probably didnt explain my situation adequately in my original post. Basically when I look at my degiro portfolio I am down about 16 euro. I have made 12 separate transactions on the ETFs (2 on each), across June and July. The exchange rate...

is it better stick to euro based stocks

Hi Ixus/galway_blow_in I'm very interested in your discussion as I can see both sides stance (if that's possible) I have just started to monthly dollar cost average into the below USD ETFs, but trying to get good fx diversification through the percentage allocations.... 20% - VEA Developed...
