Should I stop contributing to PRSA AVC ?

If you're on the pre 95 pension scheme, is your normal retirement age 60? You're 57 now with 38 years service so will have your full 40 years service at 59 and your nra is 60. I'm interested to hear what implications this will have on your avc drawdown.

Should I stop contributing to PRSA AVC ?

Hi, I'm not sure if I have an answer. But I'd suggest you'd get more responses in the public sector pensions sub forum, if one of the moderators could move this for you.

    Pension Planet error ?

Anyone find the projections tool, a bit iffy? For example, if you increase or decrease your salary in the simulator, the projected value remains the same.

    Voiceover work in Ireland

I don't know much at all but a quick Google brought this up which might help your family member. http://voicedepartment.ie/ I also highly recommend he/she/they watch Toast of London just for a laugh as the central character is a voice over artist, very funny.

    AVC Fund dropping in value

Over the last few years I've been contributing to an avc fund. The last few weeks, the fund has been going up and down, more recently down. Not by much admittedly. I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on whether one should continue making contributions to an avc fund in these uncertain...

Public Servant - Short Years at retirement

EarlyRiser Thank you very much. I don't know where my head is at these days. Shortly after posting I looked at my previous post. I had completely forgotten about it. Apologies to all. Perhaps a moderator could close this as Earlyriser and others have already kindly advised me about this...

Public Servant - Short Years at retirement

Good morning To have the full 40 years of service at retirement I will need to work until I am 67. I was happy to do that until recently when I had a change of heart and decided it would be better to retire probably in my early 60s. I then decided to align my retirement with my wife's...

Advice on best equity based investment balance for savings

I don't have advice for you OP. I just want to say I'm interested in hearing views as I also wanted to look at investing in equities on a monthly basis without the hassle of getting into etf. I thought something like this would take the hassle out of the 8 year tac rule while also allowing one...

Contributing to an AVC - What if I don't retire early

Thanks very much Early Riser. I was told an ARF or annuity were my options but just wanted to hear other views. You've answered my question. I think I'll just continue as I have planned and see how I'm feeling about things on a yearly basis. The good thing about this course of action is that...

Contributing to an AVC - What if I don't retire early

Conan and EarlyRiser Thanks for taking the time to reply. Just for info. My normal retirement age is 60. At 60 I will have just short of 34 years service. I need 40 years service to get my full pension. I'm earning 85k at the moment. I looked at the possibility of retiring at 62 to align...

Contributing to an AVC - What if I don't retire early

Folks, So, I'm in my late 40s. I won't have 40 years service until I'm 67. Although I'm happy enough in my job at the moment, I know that can change so I have just got the ball rolling on setting up an AVC for myself so that I can look at retiring at 62. The tax relief of this is the main...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

Thanks Kow, I'm very keen that we both don't have a major lifestyle change when retirement happens. Honestly, my partner is super, just not good with finances. I'm at fault as well with a "sure we'll be grand" approach for too long. Getting a handle on finances now will mean we can still...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

Thanks Protocol, I know looking at your approach, we have no excuse for not being able to build up a significant pot of money. I intend to tackle this now head on. On your question where did all the money go, well I'll admit that we got caught up in the "spend money on the never never" during...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

Thank you Stephen, One partner is ok with money, the other is not, that's the reality. Good point on the significant drop in income when retirement happens. I agree with the approach you suggest and will encourage my partner to take on board the advice. Thank you for taking the time to offer...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

I will endeavour to clear the credit card as soon as possible. Getting to grips with the reality of the monthly spend can be a challenge as although one of us is mindful of finances, the other is not. I don't want to be too critical as my partner is super in everything other way. But we need...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

Thanks KOW, I know that it looks strange, but it's not a wind up. On point 1, I'll ask wife to look into the buying service option and compare it to AVC purchase. On point 2, you're definitely right. We need to get a handle on where our money is going. On point 3, you're right again. My...

    Financial Advice for a Couple

Thanks MichaelM, Very good point. I plan to revisit this on an almost annual basis i.e. see if I still have the appetite to work until mid 60s. I like my work a lot and also appreciate the fact that it's not physically demanding. I'm aware of the tax relief available on AVCs and if/when the...
