Was Thatcher good for the UK economy?

No - we'd end up even worse off. She had no concept of compromise. She ended up being ousted because of her disasterous attitudes to people. The only way to deal with the EU/IMF/bondholders is in a measured & responsible way - that doesn't mean it's a weak response.

Was Thatcher good for the UK economy?

Of course excessive laws/regulation isn't the answer, but I would have hoped that by looking back at the history we would have learned something & be able to build a better society, government & commercial template for the future than what has gone before. I remember the despair of father being...

Was Thatcher good for the UK economy?

As someone who lived under that regime - she was a disaster - more poverty & misery. Protocol - there is nothing wrong with protecting workers rights, I don't know when that became a bad thing. We have experienced here what it is like when banks have been able to run-amok - not a good thing I...

Paying off mortgage for rental property

Thanks Brendan, the mort is actually on our family home & we own the rental property outright. I may contact BOS & see what they come up with - just to see what our options would be. I wouldn't tell them we would be in a position to pay it off in total, just that we "may" be coming into some...

Paying off mortgage for rental property

We own a rental property for which we have a mort of 130,000 interest only thru bank of Scotland. It's been rented for the past 4 years, thankfully, and it covers the repayments & insurance. The current tenant will be moving out in May & we'll have to do a few small jobs to try & rent it out...

"Vacation, Vacation, Vacation" -TV3 show. Kirsty and Phil passed their sell by date?

I only watched a small bit of the programme & wasn't impressed either - I've gone off "Kirsty" anyway. The TV3 couple are so annoying that I can't watch it anymore - with all the flirting going on - I feel like telling them to "get a room", very disappointing

    ILP Shares

Oh No! Not that I was doing anything with them it's only about 350 shares, so I'll just keep them & see what happens. Maybe in 20 years time they might be worth a few bob!

    Condensing boiler versus conventional comparisons

DGOBS thanks for the info I'll check out the seai website. What I meant was that the burner doesn't have a big chimney. The boiler is outdoors. Sorry to be so thick - but what do you mean by "system controls".

    correct curtain width

If there is tape knot one end (so you don't just pull it right out!) and gather. Even if they are tab top hang them up & gather on the pole. It looks nicer to have "full" curtains rather than measly looking ones. You could even get a couple of tie-backs to hold back neatly when open...

    Condensing boiler versus conventional comparisons

Just been told our oil burner (type with no big flue burns kerosene ??) What recommendations & costs involved in replacing? Also would we be able to apply for a grant? As you will see from the first sentence - not in the least bit technically minded, so if anyone does have advice keep it...

    correct curtain width

Depending on the type of curtain you have - you could just gather them to make them hang properly. Don't cut them before you try them on the curtain pole!

    Redundancy entitlement

I would make the claim now - if your employer says he cannot afford to pay claim direct from the department.

Letting property, the PRTB & BER Cert. Is BER cert compulsory / tax deductable?.

According to the seai website a BER cert is valid for 10 years so it could be worth getting anyway. But I do agree, it does seem to be a bit of a raquet

Halifax mortgage - should I change?

I've a similar query, we have an interest only mort with BOS for a rental property which is paying it's way - at the moment - we have enough cash to pay it off if we want to. Would there be any sense in clearing it? If we sold it would (just) pay off the mortgage, that's if we could actually...
