Did Michael O'Leary Actually Qualify As ACA ?

My take away from this thread is that one doesn't need qualification to be educated in a particular field. I'd guess that O'Leary is better at running the financial side of a business than most qualified accountants.

That sounds like a very sensible thing to do.

Citizens Assembly - Drugs - decriminalisation of possession presumably for er 'private' use

Just on this. What evidence do you have to back that up? Remember that addicts do not, for the most part, fall into the stereotypical group of emaciated looking wide eyes "junkies" staggering around the street and they certainly don't start off like that. Much like most medical issues early...

Citizens Assembly - Drugs - decriminalisation of possession presumably for er 'private' use

The evidence from the US suggests otherwise. WE don't hear about the successes. We only see and hear about the failures. Some US data here. They find that the median number of attempts is 2. That said I'm sceptical of most sociological studies as so many of them, from the original Broken Window...

There aren't 400 nurses or 800 home help to hire. Money is not the constraint, people are. Wasting people's time is a bigger problem than wasting money.

    Referendums on 8th of March

My point is that we can put any wording we like into the constitution and it will not make an iota of a difference. The people you talked to can be armed with the strongest wording possible and the State can be compelled to do anything and everything and it will make no difference. The problem...

    Referendums on 8th of March

Changing the constitution won’t stop the HSE from being incompetent and grossly wasteful and it won’t stop the complacency and complicity of the vested interests within the healthcare industry, including the doctors and nurses, in that waste and structural incompetence. Fixing that will require...

    Referendums on 8th of March

The danger is it’s filled with bigoted nutters, racists and xenophobes with their own right wing version of the kind of mindless populism that’s made the Shinners the biggest party in the country.

    Artificial Intelligence

It just occurred to me, the AI that will kill us all isn’t the one that is developed to run weapons systems, it’s the resentful one that we develop to read colonoscopies.

I’m happy that it looks like a No No but frustrated that they didn’t just get rid of the mother in the home reference and leave it at that.

Citizens Assembly - Drugs - decriminalisation of possession presumably for er 'private' use

I’ve had some experience of addiction in my family and I was struck by the pointlessness of the legal aid merry go round where people with profound mental health, intellectual and social problems are churned through the courts week in week out. Agreed. While I agree that middle class drug...

That’s exactly what I have been concerned about and highlighted in my first post in the thread I started on this topic.

Did Michael O'Leary Actually Qualify As ACA ?

I think it might say more about Matt Cooper than Michael O'Leary. Maybe Matt concentrated on the business side of things. Maybe O'Leary's friends and colleagues think highly of him and didn't want to talk to Cooper. Maybe O'Leary's friends and colleagues don't think highly of Cooper and didn't...

    Recommend a Book

A recent discussion here about human nature reminded me of Human Kind: A hopeful History by Dutch writer Rutger Bregman. It's one of the best books I've read in years. It makes the argument that people are basically good and that is our evolutionary advantage. In the debate on the nature of man...

    The Referendum explained

The fourth change is to insert a new Article, 42B, (really replacing 41.1) which is “The State recognises that the provision of care by members of a family to one another by reason of the bonds that exist among them, gives to Society a support without which the common good cannot be achieved...

None of the engineers I've worked with in medical device companies in Ireland, Europe or the USA have been required my their employer to be members of a professional body. Oh, and I'm not a professional so I've only had a working life.

    Chartered Accountants Annual Fee 2024

Okay, so I work in medical device manufacturing most of my adult life and I actually machined knee joints about 25 years ago. Very few of the engineers, technicians, tradespeople or QA people I've worked with in a career spanning more than 30 years supplying multinationals in Ireland, Europe and...
