I have an irish passport which expires in a few months. I am also entitled to hold a UK or Chinese passport. I plan to do a lot of long haul travel in the next few years as well as some european travel. I am weighing up the pros and cons of which passport to apply for. I am especially interested...

Mother paid my Medical bills - Can she claim back on her tax return?

I was very ill last year and in order to get private medical treatment for me, my mother paid almost 20k in hospital fees. She is a pensioner and pays about 2k per year in tax. I'm on social welfare and do some part-time work but I didn't pay any tax last year. I am wondering if my...

Hands up if you have 'the flu'

Could have written the first post myself also, but I had the flu! One week on it's eased a lot, but still way below par. However, greatly cheered up by the fact that I can feel the weight dropping off yippee!!!

    2010 All-Comer Award for Stupidity

Same here, car is 13 years old and am often told how clean it looks?? It's about 3 years since it's been washed, but a nice tropical rain shower every so often and it looks brand new. Then again, with 3 dogs the insides are a different story but hey that's why I bought it in the first place!

Computer illiterate colleagues really annoying me lately

In a previous life in motor tax office public counter, my colleagues screen went blank. It took me 2 seconds to realise the reason was that her copy of Heat Magazine which was sitting on top of her monitor had fallen down the back and unhinged the power plug. I replaced the plug, removing...

    Budget ideas

Give free 1-way plane/boat tickets to everyone on social welfare plus say 3 months welfare payments to get them started, with the proviso that they can't return to live here for 5 years.

    wooden blinds or curtains

Hate wooden blinds. Have you considered roman blinds - they can be made in all sizes and as mix and match same outer materials, but for extra privacy you can add matching linings to the living room blinds. Also what goes on one window does definitely not have to go on all ! That would bore...

    Window smashed, who should pay?

Judge Judy would definitely insist that Mr Brick pay for the cost of repairing your window.

    Buying a Printer

If it's photo quality you want I would not recommend a Kodak printer (based on 2 years of selling them) and a 70% return rate. I actually refused to sell them eventually. Go for Canon (best for photos), Epsom or HP instead.

Kids- how many are enough? (not whether to start)

Not to mention the mother who spoke about after having 3 disappointments - she finally had a baby girl (and all within earshot of the 3 "disappointments"). ?

career change from IT to Librarian/ archivist

If you would consider moving to the UK, they often have many openings that may suit you (though nothing listed at the moment). They are located at Kew in South London (which is an expensive area to rent/buy into) but a really lovely part of London. If you keep an eye on their website and...

    Kathryn Thomas on Winning Streak

Is it me or does she drive anyone else to switch channels with her shreakingly loud voice on this programme? In fairness, I thought she was great on the travel programme. But I can't bear to listen to her on Winning Streak - why does she have to scream non stop?

I bought Vintage Rolex Submariner 19 years ago. Need some servicing?

If you have any contacts in London, Rolex have a service centre in Bond Street. I have a 1940s Rolex dress watch that needed a service and they did a brilliant job, took about a week, but the watch came backing working perfectly and looking great.

anyone got any good ideas on colour for a hallway?

There's a colortrend paint called "sheep" it's a lovely light warmish greeny-hint-of-blue that might work well. I've used it in a couple of rooms in my house and a year later, I still love it (as does everyone else whose seen it).

    Worktop to match with what?

With the oak cabinets, I would opt for either a totally matt black worktop or a glossy black - get a sample of both and see which works best. I would advise against brown/creamy worktops - far better to go for a contrast/statement worktop that wont date (i.e. black) even if you eventually...
