Electric Ireland Advertised Price Increase apparent discrepancy

The price rise is on the ex vat unit rate without your discount applied. The headline rate is =21.12*1.135*0.74=17.738688 I dont know what the headline rate was before the price rise but that figure +9.3% = 21.12 (i think) That standing charge doesn't look high enough either, not sure about...

    Electric Ireland €265 offer

I havent looked at EI in particular but they usually say in the T&Cs they can claim up to the full amount of the welcome bonus, in practice they may reclaim the welcome bonus on a pro rata basis, so if you stayed for 1/2 the contract they would take half the cashback + the early termination fee...

Should Elder lemons like myself bother swithching this year?

I switched from bordgais for my electric recently, out of contract. If I had been with any other company i would of switched to bordgais. They guarantee not to raise their price again until spring (I'm sure that's not contractually binding but they wouldn't make that statement unless they were...

Advice on how to line up utility switch dates, to avoid being charged higher rates when current deal expires?

Just to say I have a smart meter, but I'm currently on a normal 24hr tariff. If you have a smart meter installed you can access the info on the meter. You just press the button to scroll through and it gives you t1 t2 and t3 readings, so you can figure out what percentage of each you use.

Advice on how to line up utility switch dates, to avoid being charged higher rates when current deal expires?

I know this is a month old but i thought i'd add my experince of smart meters. I've had one for about 18 months now, the info it shows is total kwh, total day khw, total night khw, and total peak khw. The companies offer those three tariffs on smart meters, but unlike day night meters, you pay...

The Perils of Shorting: A Real Life Example

I am considering taking out a short as well, just in a slightly different way. The day before the next earnings (mid Feb i believe) selling a $0.06 spread bet with a 10% guaranteed stop loss, by my reckoning i'm risking roughly $350 if the share price goes up 10% and the guarantee got triggered.

Method of tracking share trades, P&L and CGT

I'm with JPD, I've been using money / gaier for years now. A lot of the functionality in money doesn't work anymore but it let's me manually set up different accounts for each bank and broker I have. Track shares and divis, in multiple currencies, and FIFO / special situations. The reports view...

CGT on sale of shares - Bed and Breakfast rules

Hi Joe, thanks for the response, I'm not looking at a loss, I'm looking at a gain I want to realise. I have a number of 'paper' gains this year, I don't particularly want to sell any of them but am looking to use up my CGT allowance this year. Looking at Brendan's post Furthermore, where a loss...

Key Post Capital Gains Tax on sale of shares

Hi there, i have my capital gains tax allowance for the year to use up. I'm going to realise £1000 of gains in burford capital. I would like to spread bet it, i just want to remove the risk of price change, and remain in the share, not looking to profit during the month i have to sell. Are...
