What do members of existing pension schemes do when auto-enrolment is introduced?

So just making sure I understand this correctly, I would have to exit my current pension with Irish Life and enrol in the government provided one to avail of the employer and government contributions. I do not see why you are pigeonholed into a particular set of pension pots as opposed to...

Shower Pump only kicking in when water temperature is set to cold.

It’s a Grundfos STP 3.0 B It’s designed to supply both hot and cold and has worked for the last 3 months or so. The problem I outline above was there when we moved in and has resurfaced again in the last few days. I’m just trying to determine what’s causing it.

Shower Pump only kicking in when water temperature is set to cold.

Moved into a new house about 3 months ago and noticed that the shower pump wouldn’t kick in when the temperature dial was moved up above the cold end of the setting. This appeared to resolve itself with some rather unscientific push of buttons/switches by myself but now is happening again. The...

Moving into house - should i change locks?.

I absolutely would change them, I had 5 sets of locks changed for €240 so you would be talking around €150 or so.

    13.5% VAT on goods supplied?

I’m not an accountant but when I’m quoting for jobs I use 23% on all materials/products bought in.

Sale agreed - When and who pays LPT

We bought our house a few months back and we paid our share of the lpt for the percentage of the year we owned the property to the vendors when we paid the rest of the purchase amount. I would assume you’re only liable for the share of the lpt from when contracts are fully signed not from when...

More personal injuries case dismissed as plaintiffs lacked "common sense"

While I agree with you that these frivolous law suits are a drain on public funds in addition to being an enormous waste of the courts time, I don’t see a pre lodged amount to get your day in court ever getting off the ground as it would be an impediment to regular people bringing cases due to...

Property gone sale agreed but significant jump in sale prices may mean a change of mind.

Glad to hear it all went well for you. I just moved into my own first house 2 months ago as well. The sale had dragged on since March which was frustrating but it was all worth it once we were able to move in. I had half wondered if we were on opposite sides of the same deal at one point haha.

    Free contraception for women

Well I image there are a number of reasons, firstly the younger you are the less you are likely to be earning and therefore will benefit most from this and secondly after 25 the percentage of women who would be starting to think about starting a family would likely increase dramatically. It...

    Free contraception for women

What sort of balance are you crying out for here? An equal amount of money set aside for condoms for men or just an equal amount of money set aside for any men’s only issue? If it’s the former I would argue that funding free women’s contraception is a more cost effective measure as they tend to...

Morning Ireland interviews with three people facing difficulty getting on the housing ladder

Oddly enough I think a government representative promising unicorns to everybody in the country, being 5 years late and €1 Billion over budget to finally deliver a load of donkeys with dildos strapped to their heads is an apt metaphor for all Irish government policies.

    Attic Insulation/Access/Ventilation Work Recomendations

Yeah I had looked at them previously when we were viewing properties that would have required more of a deep retrofit.

    Attic Insulation/Access/Ventilation Work Recomendations

I had looked at churchfield but I didn’t think that they did attic stairs and flooring.

    Attic Insulation/Access/Ventilation Work Recomendations

1968 built semi detached open gable roof, the BER as of earlier this year is a C2. I’m not too concerned on price more so quality of the work. From what I had looked at online I was expecting somewhere in the €2k - €2.5k region with the SEAI grant for the insulation taken into account.

Sorry forgot to put that in, we are in south Dublin. Yeah I have been looking through the list also but thought some additional reviews might be helpful.

    Attic Insulation/Access/Ventilation Work Recomendations

We have finally managed to get ourselves into the house so now the never ending maintenance/upgrading/decorating fun can begin. We are looking to increase the attic insulation from 4” to 12”, get approximately 24 square meters of raised flooring put down, upgrade the attic access from a metal...

Central Bank wants your views on the mortgage lending limits

The figures back that up but in the same vein of putting congestion charges in the inner city or increasing carbon taxes they are absolutely an appropriate measure to take but they have to be introduced after other measures to avoid exacerbating the problem (Increased housing supply/more public...

Central Bank wants your views on the mortgage lending limits

I heard the “debate” as I was heading back to the office. Granted I have a bias in that I already agree with your viewpoint on the 3.5 times salary restrictions (despite getting an exemption myself) but you can always tell who is winning a debate based on which person remains calm and sticks to...
