    Russian Foreign Policy

If Russia see a plane fly to Ukraine from a NATO country you can be pretty sure they will declare it an act of war by NATO - they are classified as offensive rather than defensive weapons (such as missiles)

Will you go for a pint when restrictions are lifted?

If it came WITH a straw it should be sent back

Very fine people on both sides... Or words to that effect

    Cousin Inheritance Threshold

Why stop there - should they also list second cousins, cousins once removed etc etc. Seems like saying "C is for anything not in A or B" is pretty clear

Why did Revolut get ECB licensing and not Central Bank licensing

A couple of points on CBI applications... There is a definite timeline for certain applications like MB, branch openings or extension of services such as the 90 day timeframe above. The question is when does that clock start - if you are applying for a license, you will of course have a...

    Travel Requirements for minor

As far as I understand it... Coming here from UK you do need to fill out a locator form for everyone travelling and anyone over 11 needs a Vax cert or similar or else a PCR test. Under 11 are exempt. But I'd validate that

    Travel Requirements for minor

The app just does that automatically. It isn't sophisticated enough to know the requirements between each of the countries - plus there are so many exceptions and clauses that it's almost impossible for an app to be able to know exactly what you specifically need e.g. going from Ireland to UK...

    Lockdown, what do we keep?

That's the spirit - "Someone told me the fire is hot but I'm going to show THEM - I'm sticking my hand in the fire. Win win!!!"

    Travel Requirements for minor

Ireland, the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man If you’re travelling to England from within the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, you do not need to: complete a passenger locator form take any COVID-19 tests quarantine on arrival in England This only applies if you...

    Lockdown, what do we keep?

I think hybrid working is here to stay. We are looking to hire and every single candidate has listed this as a requirement and I know virtually all of the firms in our industry are offering it. I suspect I'll keep masks around - if I had a cold or similar I think I'd still wear a mask going...

Coronavirus - latest global news - discuss Irish news the other thread

"Just asking questions" - the comfort blanket of the uninformed (whether deliberately or not). The vaccines in question were not developed at "breakneck" speed. I watched the Dimbleby lecture where Prof Sarah Gilbert (led the Oxford vaccine team) described how the work on the Oxford and MRNA...

    Updating App with Digital Certificate

I don't use the physical cert. Only ever use the app or screenshot Edit... Missed the bit where you crop a screenshot. I was trying to fold my phone. But I usually use the app anyway

Coronavirus - latest global news - discuss Irish news the other thread

The exemption was from the Tennis organisers not the Melbourne authorities / border control afaik. While no doubt the border control paid a lot more attention to his case because of public opinion overnight - that public reaction was also self inflicted as he has spouted about having the...

Coronavirus - latest global news - discuss Irish news the other thread

A point I had forgotten (but was also mentioned last night) was that the risk to the NHS isn't just the absolute numbers going into hospital / ICU - but rather that if the spike is incredibly high, there will be severe shortages of staff due to needing to isolate. So whereas last time the stress...

    Two probability questions for nerds

Yes sorry - 67% You're right - I think the way I read the question looked like a 100% x 50% probability (i.e. the first is a boy). But BG and GB are valid outcomes as well as BB - so one in three

Coronavirus - latest global news - discuss Irish news the other thread

I just found out last night that the UK reports "new" cases i.e. the reported number doesn't include people reinfected. Apparently they will be adding repeat infections at some point - but there could be quite a bit of under-reporting

Coronavirus - latest global news - discuss Irish news the other thread

78k positive cases in UK in last 24 hours - higher than peak in January. Hospitalisations up 10% on prior week - even though less severe than Delta, a small percentage of a very high number can still be a high number

    Two probability questions for nerds

This seems similar to the Monty Hall problem - where additional information alters the odds significantly. In the Monty Hall scenario, the contestant picks a door out of three (the prize is behind the doors). They then open one of the two remaining doors and ask if you want to change your mind...
