The anti-landlord legislation chickens are coming home to roost

The article gives no information on why properties are being withdrawn so I can't see how they or anyone can come to the conclusion that homelessness is being caused by owner occupiers buying rented accommodation. If someone had data showing this fair enough...

Has anyone had difficulty in getting "independent" financial advice?

I found it very diffcult to find independent advice. Anyone who is self-employed or needs to make decisions around their pension themselves (i.e. not someone who is part of a large companies pension scheme) is really vulnerable to exploitation by "Financial Advisors". It is actually shameful...

Can I avoid stamp duty on Irish shares by buying abroad?

Is stamp duty due on Irish Shares only (i.e a Company Incorporated in Ireland)? Example - If I bought shares of an American company for 2000 euro no stamp duty would be due? For ETFs / ETCs no stamp duty is due ever, even if it is incorporated in Ireland? Example If I buy an Exchanged Traded...

Where to put the money safe if you think a crash is coming

My question was what you are using to determine that the "stocks valuations are too high"? And when did the valuation become too high? Re PE valuation I am just using this as an an example, you are right that by itself it is not a good metric. In 1999 the S&P PE went from about 25 to 32 in...

Where to put the money safe if you think a crash is coming

What are you using to determine that equities are overvalues? And how long do you think that the markets have been over valued for? The price earning ratio of the S&P500 is approximately 24.75. Te P/E of the S&P500 has been a lot higher in the last 20 years.

    Longest Bull Market in History

I think it is more important to look at is the high valuation of companies rather than how long the market is going up for.

Investment spare capital in Ltd company

Very good point - I do validate any advice given here especially from tax point of view. I am probably double working but I find that If I have a better understand of my options or at least have an outline of a plan I have more productive discussion with my accountant .

Investment spare capital in Ltd company

Thanks all for the feedback. I have a corporate pension which I can increase my contribution but I am comfortable that I am on track for my retirement goals and I would like to have access to money. I think that increasing my wages is probably what i need to consider. I am planning to discuss...

Investment spare capital in Ltd company

I have about 20K to spare each year and haven't got any ideas how to utilize this money. The money can't be reinvested into the business and I dont have any loans to pay off. Down the line I would consider using this pot of cash for a larger investment (i.e. property) or maybe to take on small...

Director - Bike to Work Scheme

One follow up question - Normal proctocol would be to pay back via salary sacrifice, as Director could I opt not to pay back the company for the bike. I found this on the revenue website: On the revenue website it mentions that "Items purchased under the scheme are not Benefit in Kind (BIK)."...

Thanks for all the feedback, I also found some information on the Revenues website from June 2018. Seems to be no issue with availing of the bike to work scheme...

    12K investment options

I think that you could teach your son a very valuable lesson by putting a portion of the money in low risk fixed income investment; compounding is basicially the most important concept of long term investing. You could look at Irish Goverment Bonds [broken link removed] or even just helping him...

Director - Bike to Work Scheme

I am a director of 1 person Ltd company with no employyes(I have read this being referred to as a one man band!). I am currently working from a location that is close enough to cycle and I should be there for several more months/the foreseeable future. Is there any issue with me availing of...

Where to put the money safe if you think a crash is coming

Definitely? But when... and when to sell equities and when to buy back again, that is the question you should answer if you are so certain. Also why sell when the corporation tax has been cut for US based companies, surely this is going to boost EPS?

Marketing of US ETFs in EU

When you are opening an account with a broker does this mean you can say that you have experience investing in different types of products and you can get full access to all ETFs? OR are they still off limits?

    Direct Property Investment vs REIT

I had heard that management teams for some REITs are really creaming it, but that is really brazen. I can't imagine that all REITs are that bad...at least i hope they are not! About REITs vs investment properties, most people don't have access to owning property outright but want it as part of...

Key Post Is gold a good investment?

@Mr Earl. I think it depends on your outlook and personal preference about protecting against major drop in stock market/currency (like the great recession 2007/2008) value OR complete collapse of "Fiat" currency. For the type of physical goal, it depends how much you want to buy... for small...

    Lower Risk Investment Recommendations (Bonds)

I have some cash put aside for a deposit for a house and a few other bits and pieces and no immediate plans to use but I will probably need it in the future. I would like to invest in property but I think that it is not the best time from a personal point of view or market point of view... I...
