Pixelating on new Virgin 360 box

If you ring first thing can be lucky and get through quickly. I’ve fixed issues like this over X/Twitter DMs before which avoided ringing them. They also have an online chat option now too but I’ve not had success with that myself as yet: https://www.virginmedia.ie/contact/ The general...

Pixelating on new Virgin 360 box

If you ring them they can send a signal boost / refresh from their end which sometimes fixes weird quirks like that.

Health Insurance Health Insurance advice for someone accustomed to NHS free healthcare

Many thanks for this extra info Sue Ellen. It's very confusing alright! We were all set to move to PMI 5310 until we heard this. A relative has found Carrickmines handy for scan referrals from physios etc, and it's a good and more affordable option to have vs private A&Es etc. The VHI guy told...

Health Insurance Health Insurance advice for someone accustomed to NHS free healthcare

Just re PMI 5310, VHI told me that’s one of the few plans that doesn’t include cover for their urgent care centre in carrickmines in Dublin if that’s relevant for you.

Health Insurance Health Insurance advice for someone accustomed to NHS free healthcare

VHI are out on their own on this. For the past few years they have been covering certain new cancer treatments not yet approved by HSE. It’s all on a case by case basis so you can’t get a breakdown on what’s covered etc. New treatments get eu approval regularly as you say so it’s a dynamic...

    Call from unknown number

Yeah I know how it sounds but it was legit :) I’d always ignore the first call and hope they would leave a voicemail to explain themselves. But it is possible that companies can ring from ordinary mobile numbers or no caller Id in these times.

    Call from unknown number

In these covid times that’s not always true. I ignored a no caller Id call recently but answered it when it rang again a short time later. Turns out it was vodafone to say I had won a prize! She explained that with working from home etc, their numbers sometimes show as blocked now. That said, I...

Switch from Eir to Vodafone for broadband

Thanks Zenith. Yeah I'm fine just paying eir an extra month or even longer. I want the simple life. Chasing the recent eir line fault & delays with our virgin order were too stressful alone! I thought you didn't have to give 30 days notice when you're switching? I was going by...

Switch from Eir to Vodafone for broadband

Appreciate your input Zenith thanks. I have eir fibre (get approx 80 megs wired). Have been with eir 14 years (slower broadband originally) & solid as a rock, until my line broke just this week actually but fair play they dealt with the fault efficiently. I understand eir are all phone line...

Switch from Eir to Vodafone for broadband

I’m in a similar boat intending to switch phone & broadband to virgin media once out of contract with eir. I was hopeful that eir did not need to be involved in the switch & no 30 day notice was needed according to their switching info at https://www.eir.ie/switching/ Am I being naïve & it’s...

New Bank Of Ireland security requirement

By the time this does become mandatory you can get a physical security key from boi if you don’t have a compatible phone. They have now added some info about this here https://www.bankofireland.com/physical-security-key/ I was told by boi a couple of weeks back that these keys were not available...

New Bank Of Ireland security requirement

There is going to be a physical key you can get from bank of Ireland if you don’t have a compatible smart phone. You can’t order these yet. When I contacted boi, they said they would contact those affected down the line (I.e. those who have not switched over to authenticating via the app)

    Joule therm heating system

I haven't had oil heaters so not sure about those sounds, but our Lucht heaters are very quiet. They may make the very odd crack sound once in a blue moon, whereas our panel heater would do that more often. The Luchts are so silent in fact we have to put an ornament etc nearby to indicate the...

    Joule therm heating system

The night rate is a factor. If you get enough heat out of it by just heating it at night, perhaps look into newer storage heater models. They could well be an improvement on what you had. But I had to augment mine with a panel heater (and the convector part my storage heater had) into the...

    Joule therm heating system

Yes, still thrilled with the lucht heaters & no issues at all with either one yet a few years on (hope I don't jinx it saying that!). Mind you I've no knowledge/experience of EcoVolt so they could be just as great or better of course... But I can speak relative to standard storage and panel...

Health Insurance Laya's poor coverage for cancer treament

As far as I know it's a case of only vhi covering certain cancer treatments. This dates back to early 2019 e.g. see https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/rivals-have-no-plans-to-follow-vhi-s-decision-on-cancer-drugs-1.3861304?mode=amp It's not possible to get a list of what's covered because...

Any recommendations for a cabinet maker to do some bespoke carpentry work?

You could try https://bespace.ie/ formerly bedroom elegance. I got a custom alcove done a couple of years ago & a variety of wardrobes a decade before that. Prices are reasonable & while they mainly promote kitchens & wardrobes, they do any sort of fitted furniture I think.

Health Insurance Expensive life extending drug, not available in Ireland

I find it very confusing myself! I thought the table of benefits for health insurance was black & white, but it only deals with hospital stays & standard outpatient stuff. But they also pay for cancer treatment/drugs for example. VHI recently started covering drugs outside of those on the public...

    Electric Heaters

We can agree to disagree. Having suffered with traditional electric heating for a decade & then switching to mainly lucht since, the difference is far from just psychological!

Health Insurance Expensive life extending drug, not available in Ireland

I know what you mean about no cover for prescriptions with private health insurance, but very expensive new drugs for cancer etc can be covered. VHI can cover drugs not approved for public patients. So if that avenue has not already been explored by their medical team etc, I would certainly...
