    Redmayne Bentley Stockbroker leaving Ireland!!

+1 on DeGiro. When I moved from Goodbody a few years ago, it cost circa E10 per position to move in. All going well now. Suggest you look up some reviews of the service, and if you want to sign up, I'm sure a few of us with accounts can share a signup code that will give you and us E20 free...

How do you decide which exchange to buy from?

I just had a look at my account, now I'm on a custody account so maybe I'm different to standard accounts, but the fee appears to be €2.50 per annum per exchange. It's given as: 01/02/2018 18:01:17 31/01/2018 DEGIRO Exchange Connection Fee 2018 (Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) - ASX) -EUR...

How do you decide which exchange to buy from?

If it's a US company, I'd tend to buy in USD given the option, due to currency exchanges. No greater science to my feeling. For tax, if you fill out the W-8BEN form (I think that's what it's called), it should partially deduct the tax on dividends same as when you were in Canada, and then you...

Key Post The Tax Treatment of ETFs for Irish residents

Your numbers look good - I did a similar exercise a few months ago, and found in general that for lower capital growth / higher dividend returns, the EU UCITS scenario works best, whereas for high capital growth / low dividend returns, the US ETF works better...

    Desktop app for share portfolio

I use Yahoo Finance - find it very useful. And there's an app for one's phone also which syncs, and is fast to use. Morningstar is very handy, but I noticed some oddities last week when I logged in - it showed me some Spanish guys account. Weird. Maybe try re-logging in.

Property Investments without becoming a landlord

I share your understanding about the distribution income being taxed, and CGT on disposal. At least, that's how I've been conducting fo rthe past few years... With the stamp duty on purchase...it's the same as anything purchased on the ISE. From reading this last year, there is an exemption if...

US ETFs no longer purchasable in Europe

Could definitely see this happening - it could be as sly as requiring PRSI contributions when retired to maintain health care eligibility, with means testing to define the rate of payment. I'm hopeful this initiative gains steam, so I can get my pension the hell out of Ireland...

US ETFs no longer purchasable in Europe

I've been thinking about this a lot lately - if it was framed in a way to say that the current housing crisis is partially due to the tax regime, it might fall on a sympatheitc ear. e.g. current Irish tax policy discourages people from saving for the future using equities in the stock markets...
