Financial Advice Needed - 7 years on from last post

I think you did really well to build up those savings, with a family at the expensive stage. Definitely prioritise a special holiday, i don't think you'll regret it - maybe a joint sinking fund for it!!

    Mid 40s and Getting Nowhere

Sorry to hear you're in such a stressful position. It's good you are looking for advice, maybe it would help to divide it up into - house - revenue - job/earning power - budget What is the deadline for the revenue payment? I presume you can arrange for it to be paid over time. In that case pay...

    First World Problems!

Surely no inheritance is guaranteed? Who knows what money will be needed to finance elder care. I personally wouldnt count on it.

    36 - huge mortgage

Just with relation to school fees of 7k - at that point there would be little or no childminder fees, which is 1.25k a month at the moment. So that would cover fees and a few associated costs. I presume the family live in Dublin so reduced college expenses as a result Huge opportunity costs with...

Heading into our 40's Zero Savings

Have you looked at the National Childcare Scheme if children are in a registered provider? Might make a saving there. 500 on children's activities - i presume swimming lessons, a good investment. I find there is pressure to have children signed up to everything and it's expensive in terms of...

    LPT due date

For some reason I used to think it was due in March. So I used to go online in March and pay in full then - there was never a fine

Anti social behaviour in property rented to the council - What do you do?

Sorry to hear about such a stressful situation, had similar a while back. I don't know what LTL is, but I had a house rented to a HAP tenant through the council. Very serious ASB going on, unfortunately i wasnt aware until something serious happened. I got in touch with the Gardai who were well...

Buy second property as my pension?

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy an investment property to rent. You've to be ready for the unexpected expense and hassle all the time. The majority of people are fine but the bad tenant is so difficult. Would you consider paying some money off your mortgage? Then maybe you can get a cheaper...

A new "evictions ban" is on the way

I heard of a case where a landlord had a Property where the Gardaí had to break in the door to deal with a person inside. Locks were changed but due to the ban on evictions the keys had to be handed back to the person inside. Surely there should be exceptions to the rule.

    Property damage

Was there a complaint made to the Gardaí By the tenant? I don’t know what you can do only recommend that she does so. Check with insurance to see what cover you have. About the son, if he is annoying the neighbours, then that would count as Anti social behaviour. Look up RTB website and there...

Tenants leaving well before 56-day legal notice period. Can I keep their deposit?

Personally I would return the deposit and send them on their way, especially as they've been good tenants. You'll fill their spot no bother - rental accommodation is in demand from what I've heard. I am waiting for a problematic tenant to move on at the moment. They caused untold problems...

How long are Mortgage Approval Applications taking currently?

Same situation here with BOI, have sent in everything. Got approval and waiting for letter of offer the past 3 weeks. I don't see what the big hold up is. Not impressed.

How long does it take to get mortgage approval?

Thanks Leo, got in touch with our original mortgage specialist who is really helpful and is going to follow up on the issue. Printed and scanned all our info again so off we go!

How long does it take to get mortgage approval?

We are looking for a relatively small home improvement mortgage (whatever the correct term is) from Bank of Ireland. Got approval in principle over the phone, gathered all the documentation and went into local branch to ask address to post them to. Rang today to see what was next step or was...

Ryanair making it difficult for customers to get refunds

That's disappointing to hear that April flights are not processed yet. We would have been travelling next week. Amazing how they can take payment instantly but can't reverse the transaction too quickly. It's hardly that complex

Protecting my finances and getting married

This is a bit of a depressing thread. Honestly if I felt I had to hide money in a marriage I would wonder if I should be getting married at all.

How do married couples split finances?

All shared here, a similar approach to some of the above posters described and it works really well.
