    State Savings - 40/50k for 10yrs

I fail to see why the thread has gone "way off topic". The OP stated a return of 8k on 50k over 10 years. I simply replied with CPI figures for the past years and compared future returns with those available previously.

    State Savings - 40/50k for 10yrs

If you invested €45K in 5.5 year savings certs in Nov 2012 you would have a gain of €9,450 by May 2018. I'm sure the return would have been much better with the 10 year product.

    State Savings - 40/50k for 10yrs

Fair enough RedOnion but I expect that you can plug in the same figures and get almost the same result over a ten year period.

    State Savings - 40/50k for 10yrs

Just googling Irish inflation calculator (http://www.hargaden.com) indicates that "€50000 in 2008 was worth about €49965.47 in 2018." The CPI inflation calculator (www.cso.ie) for €50K during that same 10 year period shows that "A basket of goods and services that cost €50,000 in Apr 2008 would...

How long do service providers keep bank a/c details

During the past few months I closed accounts with two service providers. One company continued to take direct debits for two months after the account was closed; the other company over-charged on the last bill and this showed as a credit. Today I requested a refund and was told that they would...

Best Bet for €150 K for 10 year Term

I'm simply looking to maintain current savings by as secure means as possible rather than the "aggressive growth" strategy which could possibly compromise them.

Best Bet for €150 K for 10 year Term

Any thoughts on Exchange-traded receivables? For the cautious mid-50s investor, the Sindo advises "You can earn almost 4pc interest a year - if you invest in an ETR for about three years" but "You could lose money if the company or companies whose invoices you have bought don't settle their...

Best Bet for €150 K for 10 year Term

I'm not too sure. For the safer option, State Savings (issue 22) 10K will only yield €500 after 5 years. The odds for prize bonds might not be great but there is always a slim chance of a weekly prize ranging from €50 to €50,000, with a €1m prize twice a year.

Best Bet for €150 K for 10 year Term

Apologies €150K for 10 years - possibly 20 years. 20 years can be a life span for some depending on age.

Best Bet for €150 K for 10 year Term

What is the financially best and most efficient way to invest a sum of approx. €150K for a relatively short term (approx. 10-20 years). IMHO, State Savings Certs & and Prize Bonds appear to be the safest option and stock markets look to be at their highest. In summery: Prize Bonds = Chance to...

Contributing more than 150% to AVC for 40% tax payer

Thanks for your prompt reply Conan. I assume that the Final Salary figure from the P60 (gross pay less any superannuation contributions allowable for income tax purposes) will include declared BIK, bonuses etc. So there is no financial benefit in my continued AVC payments to match the employers 4%?

Contributing more than 150% to AVC for 40% tax payer

Retirement is within the next five years with a DB pension, 20+ years of service and having contributed AVCs to allow a retirement lump sum of 150% of revenue max limit and in 40% tax bracket. I'm wondering if there is any financial benefit in continued investment in AVCs? Just matching company...

Moved Provider & A/C in Credit

I received a service provider statement stating that I overpaid for their service (actually they took it by way of DD). I am no longer a customer with that provider - and probably will never be again. Will they be as quick to replace funds? TIA

    Changing Broadband & Phone Provider

I'm afraid they are a necessary evil. Probably the most helpful comparison guide is: http://www.moneyguideireland.com/cheapest-phone-and-broadband-package.html

    Changing Broadband & Phone Provider

Thanks. Think I'll just have to accept it for now. However I get the feeling that I will have to face something similar next year when I switch again. I would prefer to do something now to help others facing the same situation.

    Changing Broadband & Phone Provider

I switched providers in Dec. and spent some time doing homework to ensure a seamless switch with minimal cost. However I'm now billed by both companies for December. My current provider says it took over phone line in Dec but not BB. Total cost is approx €105 for the privilege. Great mark up for...

    Best Buy Broadband best buys

Signed up to Pure Telecom on 7th Dec 2018. Rang them today and was told that the modem won't be delivered until 7th Jan 2019 (delay due to holidays). I am now being billed by Pure Telecom and eir during this month. Has anyone else experienced this problem? TIA

    How to watch TV

I have fairly decent broadband and recently unsubscribed from Sky. Between NowTV, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. - can anyone advise a decent package. I've also gone through the android box phase where I never knew if I would spend the night being entertained or just wasting a few hours looking for...

Changing Broadband & Phone Provider from eir

FYI. I signed up with Pure Telecom on 7th Dec to switch from eir. I contacted Pure Telecom yesterday and was advised that the switch won't happen until after Christmas but that there won't be a break in service because I'm still with eir. I am now having to pay €76 per month for that privilege.
