Hi there

Heading over to London for a weekend with the sisters at the end of January and thinking about taking in a show. Billy Elliott has been suggested but just wondering has anyone been to this or has anyone another recommendation. Thanks.

I have seen 2 shows in London, Blood Brothers and We Will Rock You and I enjoyed both of them. It is a long time since I saw We Will Rock You so it mightn't be as good. I choose it at the time because the theatre was 2 minutes from my hotel and we got a 2 or 1 offer on it. It's a little silly but the music was really good and it was quite funny. I think Ben Elton wrote it.

You should check out lastminute.com for ticket prices. I went to London in January last year and got tickets for Blood Brothers really cheaply. I think we paid £17.50 a ticket. I didn't know what seats I got until I picked the tickets up at the theatre but they were quite good. The theatre wasn't full so we moved to even better seats at the intermission. I had a quick look and Grand Circle seats for Billy Elliott are available for £20 (+ booking fee). Broadwaybox has a discount off the Top Price tickets - £39.50 down from £60. There are loads of discounts available if you are over there on a weekday. Saturday and Sunday are usually excluded from these offers.

I've seen Wicked 8 times and Billy Elliott 4 and love them both. I think Billy Elliott has a more universal appeal though!

My advice for both theatres is skip the cheap seats. These shows are worth getting the best tickets you can for. The closer the better.

Zorro - very entertaining, great special effects. Got half price tickets at the tkts booth.

I'm no expert by any means but I saw Billy Elliot last year & just loved it! The only thing I can say is that I don't think you will be disappointed - Enjoy!!!

Would recommend Phantom of Opera, Chicago, Mamma Mia, The Sound of Music & Greece. Only musicals I have seen and would recommend them all.

A Little night music in the Menier Chocolate Factory @ London Bridge has got v. good reviews. You'd need to book in advance - £30, and you can also get dinner in the restaurant there.

I enjoyed Sunset Boulevard, and it also got good reviews. Tickets from £17

If you want more serious theatre, this looks promising...
