Solicitor Firm Closed

Recently tried to contact the solicitors firm that I had used a few years ago for some work. The phone number was no longer valid. Went to offices to find the firm had closed. Plaque removed and no details on building. Inquired with a local business if they had moved and was told they shut down more than a year ago. I never received any communication and now need to access my file and deeds that they have. Any advice on how best to proceed or what is the procedure with the law society in such cases.

Contact Law Society, they should be able to tell you who the nominee for your solicitor is and where you can get your file.

Followed it up by eventually getting in contact directly with one of the partners. Was given the contact details of a working solicitor who had received the files from the firm that closed. Phoned them and was told that files over 10 years were destroyed. They said they would contact me if they had any of my files. Didn't receive any further communication. Getting a new solicitor to ensure that titles are okay. Guess it's like any business closing. Not pretty.
