Increase for a qualified adult means test - UK disability benefits

I live in the UK but have an Irish contributory state pension. Since retiring I have also been claiming an increase for a qualified adult (IQA) for my wife.

Until now her small UK state pension has been below 100 euros a week (about £75 sterling currently) so she is entitled to the full pro rata IQA.

However she has now been awarded attendance allowance - a non means tested benefit for UK elderly people who are infirm/disabled.

Does anyone know if her attendance allowance income (around £86 sterling per week) would be excluded from the QIA means test in Ireland - as it is in the UK for determining means tested benefits as it is a disability benefit? Or does the Irish means test include them as eligible income and therefore potentially reduce her IQA?

As her combined income is now over €100 it appears her IQA will be reduced by the amount over the €100. You should contact the Pensions office in Sligo to discuss the new situation.

There may be a possibility to apply for half rate Carers allowance if your wife requires constant care. She would be able to keep the the full IQA and receive half rate Carers also. Not sure if it applies to those living in the UK as it an allowance. May be worth checking out.
