Any chance my stove is broken?

Hi everyone
Really stumped and I’d love some advice.

I have a Blacksmith 5KW multifuel stove installed for 3 years and have had perpetual issues with it.

My flue is lined, I have an insulated boilerplate seal where the chimney has been sealed. Everything done and fitted by approved guys.

I burn kiln dried logs but have experimented with coal, peat briquettes, even anthracite.

Chimney swept regularly. Fire started in good fashion using sticks and firelighters to heat up the system

So far so good (I think?)

It burns pretty efficiently and uses probably 10-12 logs in say 4 hours and the ash will be fully broken down with the wood burnt out. This will feed a healthy fire.

However the heat output is terrible. Even after 4/5 hours of burning it will hardly be as hot as a radiator.

Compared with the old open fire the room never gets that warm and the output wouldn’t be enough to heat the room without the central heating.

I’ve had 3 different guys in to look at it and I’m convinced the stove is the issue. Could I be right? Could it be broken or faulty? How could I check?

The secondary air at the top never fully closed. As in when I bought it, it never slides completely closed...would this be enough to stop it throwing heat out.

Thanks for any advice

You don't mention if the stove was ever serviced, in other words thoroughly cleaned out, I have a Stanley boiler stove and clean it frequently to keep it efficient.

Is there is a boiler fitted to yours ?, once the fuel is burning well, the water and rads should heat just fine.

Put enough fuel in, add air and a chimney draught and you will get heat.

I find the same with the exact same model stove and rad output as the OP.

It's heating a holiday home and only has to heat 7 rads.

Unless I use coal in the stove it'll never get the heat up enough to heat the rads.

Thanks guys.
Sorry I didn’t say. It’s just a freestanding room heater. It’s not connected to any rads.

I have had it serviced a number of times.

The thing is I am putting sufficient fuel in and there’s a healthy well draughted fire. And the lack of heat output is what’s pointing me to think it might be broken...

An ongoing mystery in this house!

Hi JK0987 maybe your 5kw has not the capacity to heat the size of the room! Another thing is that usually when burning just wood the primary air (at the bottom) is closed and the secondary air (at top) is fully opened when starting off. When it's really hot move the secondary air control to half way. I have a different make and that works for me! Hope this helps.
