Leeds Building Society (Ireland) have stopped offering deposit accounts for new customers.

"We do not currently offer any new savings products in Ireland. If you are an existing savings account customer and would like to discuss any aspect of your account, please telephone us or call into the branch."

Is this the first step to Leeds Building Society (Ireland) exiting Ireland?

It is a shame. Leeds Building Society (Ireland) frequently offered market leading variable rates.

Leeds Building Society (Ireland) join a long list of deposit brands that have disappeared since the recession including Northern Rock (Ireland), Nationwide UK (Ireland), First Active, Anglo Irish Bank, Nationwide Building Society, ICS, ACC Bank and Halifax / Bank of Scotland (Ireland).

When Brexit was announced there was a big question mark hanging over the future of Nationwide UK (Ireland), Leeds Building Society (Ireland) and the deposit wing of Investec (Ireland branch). Investec still need to clarify their legal structure post Brexit.

Are we that Toxic ?, Is it just Ireland, or are there other first world countries with such a dysfunctional banking sector, because with all the shenanigans of over charging, shafting the customers any-which way possible, I would have thought we were an easy touch for all the other financial institutions exiting the market.

Maybe they just have more of a moral compass.
