Why does the RNLI bother with kite surfers during this storm?

People were told to avoid the coastline.

I heard someone on RTE saying that people who ignored the warning were putting their lives and the lives of the emergency services at risk.

Why would the emergency services bother with them?

I don't know the story of how there is a yacht 10 miles off the coast of Wexford. What was it doing?

I'd be inclined to say, everyone knows to stay away from the coasts, if ye get intro trouble today ye are on your own... then kitesurfers etc know where they stand.

Like the idiot filmed on BBC news swimming off Salthill and the Nature's Child lady standing spreadeagled with her big coat unbuttoned. What happens if the swimmer gets into difficulties or yer wan gets blown over and cracks her skull? Selfish people.

They should be left there but at the very least no emergency service personnel should be put in danger to save them.

There could be mental health issues at play sometimes so the emergency services won't take a chance. Those found not to have mental health issues should be charged the full cost of the service provided (but then you get into issues of I wasn't really in danger and I didn't call for help).
They are all idiots though.

The very heavy and stormy sea was very attractive.

I don't mind people going to see it. I don't even mind people swimming in it, but they should do so at their own risk.

They should not be rescued if they get into trouble.

One also wonders if life insurance and insurance and yachts should cover if you for 'reckless endangerment' e.g. taking a vessel out or going for a swim when there's a red warning...

if a red alert is given, a warning of automatic arrest and detention should also be given if within a certain distance from the water/pier for non authorized personnel
