Need to close my kbc extra regular account incase I loose control of it to possible ill health and rates are so low now even with my dirt exemption it's hardly worth having it.

1. Does it matter much where I deposit the money now, once it's an instant access/demand or savings account with branch or phone support incase someone else has to contact the bank on my behalf.

2. Any benefit in keeping it in an account where I currently have my current account, (ulster bank)

any suggestion appreciated.

By the sounds of it, I don't think there will be much difference between instant access accounts so I'd pick somewhere you are already with or somewhere with good online services (for anyone assisting you). You won't get paid any interest so ease of access would seem to be the key thing.

Guys can anyone give me the link to the list of free banking accounts for the over 66's / 70's if any still exist please. thanks

Given that you are an Ulster Bank customer I’d suggest you open an Ulster Bank Special Interest Deposit Account (SIDA). You’ll get .85% on the first €15,000 and .15% on the balance. It is instant access and you can swap money Instantly to and from your current account in branch or using telephone banking or online. In order to meet the terms of the account you will need to set up a monthly standing order to transfer a monthly savings amount from your current account to the SIDA. This can be for as little as €1.

Thanks for that suggestion but as I found having a 2nd debit card very handy I think I will try to get KBC to convert my extra current account to their current account plus so will see what happens. Thanks again.

PTSB have an Explore Account that also give you money off when you use your card.

But as far as I'm aware, banking is free for all pep over age 66.
