Hi All,

If i give my property to the council for social housing to rent. Can I still claim the 100% interest relief? My guess is no, once its handed over to the council you pay full tax on rental income and cannot offset anything. I would just like to clarify.

Many Thanks

Of course you can. Why wouldn't you?

I thought you had to register with the RTB in order to claim the interest relief. If you give the property to the council they manage the day to day etc. so you have nothing to do with the tenant.

Ah.
The legislation doesn't say you have to register. It states you must comply with the registration requirements. So if no requirement to register, then you comply.

I don't have the exact wording in front of me.
