Has anyone had the side of their bath tiled and how did it turn out?

We had a plumber quote us for a refurbishment and he suggested tiling the side of the bath, but I'm worried about access in case of a leak and having to remove grout etc. Anyone had to open up a tiled bath panel?

We have ours done. Looks great. 5 years in. No issues.

Mine is tiled, looks great. You are right to be worried, don’t do it without leaving access.

The side of my bath is sheeted in 2 sections, small section 2 tiles wide at the tap / drain end, and a bigger 6 tile wide section.

If there is a problem, the grout between the 2 sections can easily be taken out. Remove the 2 mirror screws with caps that hold the smaller section in place and that section complete with tiles lifts out giving access to replace taps, u-bend, pipes etc if needed.

Put the panel back in place with the mirror screws / caps and re-grout.

I'm presuming it's a piece of plywood that's tiled over? If so, won't it just rot or disintegrate over time. There's far better ways and proper panels to take care of it

Similar as twofor1 above. One area on the side of the bath that was tiled was "removable" in case access to the pipes / drain / taps were needed. Had it in place for many years and looked much better than the bath panels that were there previously.

Thankfully, never had to open it up though. If you are getting the bath tiled that way, keep a few spare tiles in case there are issues when taking them off in the future.

Leave an access panel as discussed. Just make sure they don't use MDF anywhere near your Bathroom. Just don't use MDF end of story even better
