Parking in a residential estate

Hello, this query is for Neighbour and his wife: In the last few days someone who lives nearby has parked opposite their house, I tried to explain to them that the car being parked there is not breaking the law as it's a public road the car belongs to another neighbour who I also know - So I'm caught in middle as I know why they have to temporarily park there. So far the couple have called the Gardai to ask
Them to move the car. Next they're planning on complaining to council. It's not blocking anyone. I can see both sides...thoughts please and any points if indeed the car shouldn't legally be outside someone's house (it's not blocking a drive and It's a very spacious estate.)
 
They just don't want to be looking at it. I was asked as am involved in residents association, but not something we deal with!
 
If it's taxed + insured and not blocking anything then nothing can be done. Tell them to find something else to worry about.
 
We went up and had a look...it might be that they have to reverse out at a slight angle rather than one of those 'fast, no real need to look' reverses. Woman who has had to park there is a nervous wreck, and the neighbour was at her door tonight and then calling to her through the window to open her window and talk through that. I'm staying out of it but won't see the
Woman bullied either.
 
I'm curious to know why the woman is parking there?

It's a spacious estate and she's a nervous wreck, she obviously has strange neighbours, maybe move her car along?
 
Many people seem to feel they have some sense of ownership over the roads outside their homes, when of course they don't, and the general public are free to park in such areas so long as they are not blocking access to driveways or other entrances.

No look reverses are generally to be avoided, and I'd always advocate reversing into a driveway or parking space whenever practical. Other vehicles parking when you're gone can add challenges to reversing out, and if you hit something or someone while reversing, you will generally be considered 100% at fault.

If the owner of the home doesn't want others parking outside her property, she can apply to the council to have double yellow lines painted on the roadside, or have disc-parking introduced in the area. The latter at least will require the agreement of the majority along that section of road to have any chance. Shouting out the window or otherwise engaging anyone parking in a public place might see her getting a visit from the Gardai.

Great information Leo. It was the neighbour outside who spoke to her - she was afraid to answer the door let alone speak to him as it was late at night. He's a gruff sort. Like I said I'm caught in the middle - and she's only trying to ensure she has a car to drive in the mornings while the trouble she has had is dealt with - I think I will give them both the above information and let them deal with the matter as they see fit.

The neighbour and his wife seem to think they own the road out front and see the woman who owns the car as being in the wrong. They see nothing wrong with shouting at the woman outside her house! The poor woman not only has had her tyres slashed twice while the car was parked on her own driveway, she now has an angry neighbour shouting at her outside her own house ... is it any wonder she might be nervous! Neighbours eh, who needs them! I hope things work out for her.
 
Thanks all, I printed out some points and will drop in her letter box later. I've decided that I'm passing dealing with the couple themselves over to another member of the resident's association.
The car is actually opposite their house and a car length down from their driveway ​
and now that I know they haven't really got a complaint - I'm more to the side of the woman.

Where I live in Blackrock there were a number of cars parking legally at the end of our road. The owners were leaving them there for the day and walking in to Blackrock to work or get the DART. The people who lived on the opposite side of the road were having difficulty reversing their Chelsea Tractors out of their driveways.
They contacted DunLaoghaire Rathdown and had double yellow lines put in place on a perfectly good road to stop these people from parking. These people can now reverse out of their driveways without having to use their rear view mirrors.
It was a great section of road that we all used when we had visitors or tradesmen calling. Now it's gone because of the selfish few.

I presume the selfish few were the ones leave the cars to get the Dart right??

is it not still a perfectly good road?

if i was having trouble getting out of my drive way because of people clambering to get free parking to leave their cars there all day id try get something done about it too.

Presumably it wasnt much use to tradesmen if people were parked there all day getting the dart anyway
