Hi all. I have had a quote to install a Henley faro 600 10 kW stove of 2900. Includes stove, chimney lining and new hearth which is being replaced as I'm told it needs to be in two pieces otherwise it will crack from the heat. Price also includes removing insert and replacing it with black granite to surround the stove. Fireplace is marble so will have to be taken out and placed back in position in order to remove old insert surround. Is the installation fee of 1400 too much ? Stove is 1500 I believe. They say half a days work ! Installer also wants full fee paid to bank account the day before installation, which I thought was unusual ?

You can only have it done for the best price you can get. €1,500 seems excessive for a half days work, although that will be at least 2 people.

Are you getting it installed by the same people you are buying from. I had mine installed by a builder which worked fine. I was worried about the marble fireplace cracking, but that could have happened anyway.

Paying the fee in advance is not good. What recourse would you have if they didn't show. If it is a well established place with a premises open to the public, maybe. If its just a contractor, no way. That is my opinion for what its worth.

Can you clarify if the €2900 is the total price including all materials and the granite surround, hearth and chimney lining.
If so, the labour cost is a lot less than 1400.

Hi yes 2900 is total price. Includes stove, hearth, granite surround, chimney lining and labour. Is it reasonable then ?

Hi am I going wrong some where I have priced three places for an insert and two places have quoted 6500 and the third 7500, this is for a stovax fire insert, flue, lining, hearth, labour and new mantle (1750 average cost for mantle) as our current mantle is wooden. Am I going to the wrong place ? I am looking at 8-10kw inserts as it's a large room, would welcome any advice thanks.

Hi. This sounds expensive. The only thing I didn't include in my quote above is cherry picker hire which cost around 400, so the total cost of the one I had put in was about 3300. I was reusing the old fireplace however. Mine was an insert stove also 10 kW. It's called a faro. I haven't used it v much so feel like I spent too much on it. I have a Stanley Oisin in another room and use it daily during the winter. I prefer using a small stove as you don't use as much fuel ! A 10 kW takes a lot of fuel, it's nice to have on really freezing days but for the most part I use the smaller Oisin.

Thanks Susie I am living in south Dublin .. I wonder is this affecting my price .. the inset stove is required in a large open plan kitchen where we have a fire place, we also have a smaller sitting room but fire is sufficient there

I think prices for any home upgrade/improvement projects are on the up. I would recommend Fordes in Kilcock. They have a facebook page and if you e mail them the pictures of your set up they will ring you back with a quote in a few days. They travel everywhere. The owner is quite knowledgable about stoves/fuels etc.

I am getting a new stove, new mantle and surround, having a 'false' fireplace built on the wall to hide the new flue (currently no fireplace on the wall), flue outside to go over the roof etc.
3 quotes received in the past few weeks in Sth Dub ranging from 4.3k to 5.5k to 8.5k.

I got a new 9kw inset stove, new granite hearth & surround, new marble fireplace and chimney lining six months ago for 3250. I live in South Dublin but got it from Barry's Fireplaces & Stoves in Navan (found them at the Ideal Homes show). The prices I was getting locally were in the 4 - 5k range, there's definitely better value to be had going outside of Dublin.
