Holding two Irish passports.

Is it possible for me to have two Irish passports?

I have an existing paper passport but I will need to leave this with foreign embassies in order to get visas.

In the meantime if I had one of the new card type passports I could use this for travelling in the EU while my paper passport is stuck in an embassy.

Any advice appreciated.

Well that is fine, but it is not that you hold two passports. Unlike most EU countries, in Ireland you must have a passport to get the ID card.

It is also possible to request a second passport if you travel for work. This is particularly beneficial for those who regularly travel to countries that may restrict entry to those who visit other nations they don't get on with...

Can I only apply for this second passport online?

Just wondering if I can get an application from the passport office, get a photo from a kiosk and then send the lot in to the passport office?

Also. I see that the new passport office is located in Upper Mount Street. Do they still have a walk in service like they used to have in Molesworth Street.

If most of your travel is EU then the passport card makes sense, though do check beforehand what your original passport's expiry date is as the passport card only lasts until the same time as that (as far as I know) or 5 years. Don't think they're doing walk-ins on Mount Street you have to make an appointment. The passport cards issue very quickly.
