How many contributions needed to get full state pension?

My wife started work in 1999. She worked until 2009. She then went on disability benefit and is still on it.

She will be 66 in 2019.

Will she have enough paid and credit contributions made to claim a full state pension in 2019?

Is there a ready reckoner to help with calculations?

You need to contact Dept of Social Welfare to get details of contributions paid etc and go from there

if she was at home raising kids for some years then those are disregarded for the calculations, but yeah she'd need to contact DSP to find out for sure.

Is it not a simple matter of counting the number of paid/credited PRSI payments over X number of years. All 20 years were continuous with no breaks.

You need one of these new Welfare cards to get your Prsi contributions record now, that stopped me, It seems I must make an appointment with my local social welfare office and attend in person, very inconvenient and frankly I won't be doing that or forced into getting this card.

That is absolutely disgraceful. To access your own records you are being forced to sign up for a Welfare card? This needs to be escalated with as much publicity as possible.

That appointment thing is laughable; my wife keeps getting appointments for the middle of the day in the most remote place relative to town.

The welfare record piece is mildly disconcerting; she's obviously on their radar on foot of maternity benefit but I've received no appointment or letter; does that mean I can't establish my own PRSI position?!

Anyone can get their PRSI record from the Dept of Soc Protection in Buncrana. If you ring them or log on to MyGov.ie you can get your record. You may need the new card to get the pension but not to access your record (I think).
What’s the problem with getting the new card? Some of the hysteria around this is frankly laughable.

Actually you can't as my post indicated already.

My prsi number has identified me all of my working life, it is unique to me alone as everyone else's is to them. I pay my taxes under this reference, make returns etc yet to access many different State services such as checking my prsi record I must now make an appointment with my local social welfare office to get this new card. I am forced to take time off work, travel to their office which is an 18 mile round trip for me, pay parking, make time to get there. This is inconvenient and not necessary for what I occasionally require of the State.

We all found that out when Revenue started collecting the local property tax, yes the State do actually already know who we are and where we live.

About 5 years ago I received a letter to attend for one of these cards. I was required to travel in to the city centre and have my photo taken etc. I did as required.

When there, they couldn't find me on their system. I was sitting in a booth surrounded by other booths for about 30 minutes while they searched. During that time I could hear all the personal details of others being discussed in the surrounding booths.

A number of staff spoke to me during the process which was very disconcerting. In the end they said that they couldn't find me on their system because I had some "code" linked to my name. I made enquiries about this code but nobody had seen one before. Now I understood why all these heads were looking around corners at me. They said they would look in to this and contact me about it.

That was five years ago and I am still waiting for someone to get back to me.

That process caused me a half day of my life to get nowhere. I am now approaching 66 and I will have to go through this process again. Will the same thing happen. Will I ever find out what this mysterious code refers to. Was the code something negative? As I said before the process for me was disconcerting and now I have to go through it again.

Have a read of the post My PRSI records are in a mess by kimmagegirl.
It would appear that some people have had multiple PRSI numbers in the past.

Has your wife applied for Invalidity Pension? I'm surprised that she has remained long term on Disability as she may not be returning to work. Invalidity Pension would remain beyond 66 but would change it's name to State pension. Time to think about it!
