Hi all

I am a long time reader of these forums , but a first time poster.

I am planning on getting married in 2018 and shall be paying deposits for venues and bands over the next few weeks and was looking for some advise re wedding insurance.

I had a look at other posts but can't find anything newer than 2010 .Having a google I found several companies advertising this product but all are the same product by blue insurance .

Does anyone know of any other companies who will insure a wedding? Our venue Has public liability insurance already.

For our wedding it is coming in around €145 for the insurance and am trying to shop around for the best value deal (blue insurance only cover 75% of costs).

I had a friend who was caught by a hotel closure last year and lost their deposit hence why i think it may be worth the cost.

On a side note Is it worth using a cc for paying deposits ( funded by savings) for charge back protection?

The forums have been a great help in organizing the savings and finance of the wedding, so thank you all and tanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Always use a credit card where possible to pay for big ticket items, they all offer some level of protection against potential issues such as you might face here.

Blue are the only people doing this.

every venue will have public liability. They'd have to show evidence for renewal of their alcohol licence. In any event, their public liability isnt your concern.

Thanks for the response, a few venues we looked at didn't actually have public liability insurance ( in fairness they where byob venues now that i think about it ) thus why i was checking in each venue.

It looks like blue it is so , Lack of insurance competition in Ireland is a joke, Loads of places i the UK do this and hence cost less with better coverage.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I dont think there's a huge appetite for it here. It got highlighted when people got burned by a few hotels going into receivership. But it was never a huge draw. Or even good value for what it was.

I think it is a great idea, hotel going wallop wouldn't be my biggest concern, you would be surprised how many weddings are cancelled or postponed due to sudden death/illness. All deposits can be lost in a case like that so if it covered that alone I think it's worth it.

You just need to carefully read the small print and note the limits of coverage for each element.
