XL Holidays Question

Was watching in horror at the dilemma of those poor holiday makers affected by its closure and noticed them saying those who booked online werent covered for return flights, etc. like those who booked through travel agents. Having travelled with them last year having booked online this worries me! Credit card will cover its seems but you would be invoiced for the flight home unlike those who booked through an agent? Check it on www.xl.com I always thought buying online your rights were still as protected but it appears not? Anyone able to tell me more thanks:confused:

Tour operators have a financial bond in place for such circumstances but airlines don't.

I was booked to fly with them from Gatwick to Fuerteventura in Nov, i booked online with XL.com so am not covered by our travel insurance. I phoned the credit card company and they said send in the details that I might get something back.
I am one of the lucky ones it was a one way flight only so will not lose a lot

As Euro2000 pointed out, the fact of booking online is not relevant.

As a package holiday provider, they are covered by a bond in this case,
but airlines are not, so anyone who booked flights only is not covered
by thuis bond.
