Hi. We're struggling a little to get by at the moment and I was wondering if there is some social welfare that we might be entitled to that we're not aware of. My wife works a 2 and a half day week, 20 hours or so. I'm full time employed. We file a join tax return. Is there any benefit that we can apply for based on her not being full time employed?

Your wife could be entitled to job seekers benefit for the other 2 days, check the key post at the top of this section.

If you have children, you might qualify for Family Income Supplement (FIS) - it is means tested on both your incomes.

you should also apply for the medical card, dont just hink you wont get. you can offset your mortgage, bills, childcare, travel to work etc. if you get the medical card you will not have to pay the income or health levys which will be a big saving
