Hello all...

Am planning on heading over to the States to work on a J1 visa.
I know the cost of health care over there is astronomical and was wondering if I should arrange a health/travel insurance here or would I set something up when I get there?
All advice greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

I did spend about 15 months living in the US and decided that it was cheaper to return to Ireland every 3 months to keep my VHI cover in place than to get cover over there but as I was over 50 the cover there was more expensive than yours would be.
I do not know if the VHI could have disputed cover if they wanted as I never needed to find out.
I have a friend living here who has Bupa international cover. Perhalps you could look at that.

As you are on a J-1 visa, you probably won't be there any longer than 4 months. Many agents will offer you travel insurance for that lenght of time; for example with ACE, you can get 4 months for €111 for USA. I have relatives over there; can cost $600/month for health insurance. It is mad
